New vs Used Kubota

It seems in my area I have found that buying new seems to be a good option. You have a warranty, plus Kubota has 0% financing. For me it was going new, but if I had come across a great used tractor I wouldn't have passed it up. To me it really comes down to the price and what your wanting to spend. I set a limit and fortunately I was able to buy new with the limit I set.

If the used one has sat outside for the last 4 years I would consider new but at 65 hrs it should look new if it has been cared for. $4000 will but a lot of repairs. I have bought 6 new a 2 used and never had a warranty claim. The used ones only took minor repairs and that was at 1500 hrs.

For me the difference was a cab and tons of bells and wistles.

Needless to say, I have a cab with 300hrs and love it.

WGH,

If you have $15-20 of cash and it's sitting in an account and not making much interest, spend $12K for the used one, providing it meets your needs. Hoses, mechanical parts, or repairs with 65 hours will be minimal until you hit 10-12 years age unless you work it hard.

On the other hand, if your $ are invested making 10-15% a year, then keep socking the money in that and use OPM - (Other Peoples Money) Kubota in this case to get 0% - you can do the math - you need to make $3-4K on $15K in 4 years vs buying used.

^^ very good financial advice.

The risk in buying a low-hour used tractor, is little to none. Mechanical wear problems are extremely rare, and, if a tractor is stored under cover, age effects like UV degradation of paint, tires and hoses don't start playing much of a role for 10 or 15 years. IMHO a tractor with less than 300 hours still has the value of a new one.

For the 30 years up to around 2010-2011, used Kubotas often sold for roughly the same price they had sold for when new. They only tended to depreciate in step with inflation. There's a little more dollar incentive to buy used now - maybe because new prices are rising faster. But the risk in buying a low-hour used tractor is still near zero.

I never ought ANYTHING that had a motor on it new. Always bought used. Never minded fixing things. I always said I had more time than money.

Since I retired 2 years ago, at 66, I've been buying EVERYTHING new. I just want to be able to use it without thinking about it.

Probably got 10-15 good years left on this side of the grass and I don't want to be fixing crap for half that time.

If you can afford it, buy new and spend the time you'd be working on it, or troubling over it, doing something you want.

You only go around once.

Seldom buy new... actually do quite well with others cast offs... like my trailer, patio set, chain saws... etc.

When I was small TLB shopping... I found nothing used that was small and worth it... my brother had the same experience recently.

Seems making your best deal new does have advantages... so for the few things I have bought new... no regrets.

Buying used in the near future will not be as attractive as these emission machines start hitting the used market. I predict a huge discount as the repair cost go up and reliability goes down.

I would offer 11k for the used one (in person) and do my best to get it for 12k or less. then you would be saving 5k over new. A no brainer for me. There is no way in 65 hours the tractor has 4 - 5K of wear and tear.

The biggest issue to me would be the emissions systems,if the 2009 has none or less I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I'm an old phart and won't have to replace my tractors but if I did I would look for older that have been taken care of. Hoses and such are not an issue if a machine has been cared for and now days a pretty high percentage of the tractors on the market have been in some kind of protective storage simply because of the high price of them. The biggest issue with the new stuff is the govt. interfered with stuff. They have never made anything better.
