I think I read that you do use the top tines to back drag for roots. Looks impressive!

I've seen it done in some vids, but wanted to make sure I wouldn't break anything. I think when the grapple is open, the cylinders are retracted, so I think it's OK. Just wanted to make sure.

Just went back and read Everything Attachments Wicked 60 info and it stated that the top half is used for back-dragging loose material not for ripping or digging solid roots, stumps, rocks and whatever. I'm sure Travis from EA will chime in for the real scoop, sooner or later.

Are you guys are asking about opening the grapple lid 100%, uncurling the grapple, lowering it to the ground and backing up to rake? I do that with my rake grapple but ONLY with the FEL in float. I don’t want the lid to carry any of the weight of the tractor if there is a bump in the ground. I would not want the hinge to be under such stress.

Yes. My grapple should be arriving any week now and I sure don't want to tear it up by using it incorrectly. "Float" does make perfect sense.

@geoduck - Yes, that was what I was asking. I'll have to go back and re-watch the videos. I think I watched some of them before placing my order, but now that I got the grapple I could probably use a refresher. I'm hoping my question is covered thouroughly in the 50 minutes of 'How to use the Grapple' video:

Re: the Float position, the few times I tried using it w/ the bucket and Pirahna bar with the bucket just about level, if the bucket would catch on the slightest thing, the tractor would try to 'climb over' the bucket (in other words, the front end would come up). Do you think I need more weight up front?

The boom is the only thing that should float, meaning any upward force on the boom just raises the boom rather than lift the front of the tractor. Are you sure you are getting the joystick into float? Going forward the bucket may catch and not allow for float. Going backwards, my grapple/curl geometry does not allow it to catch, the tips are sloped slightly forward.

He’s going forward and that’s common behavior. Float is pretty useless for going forward. There shouldn’t be any issues back dragging in float.

Wicked Envy causing unrest in the neighborhood.

"EA 60 inch Wicked Root Grapple, I talked to Travis about both the 55 and the 60 inch root Grapple for my L3800. I had a lot of storm damage in my apple orchard that needed to be cleaned up. I would recommend giving up 200 lbs of lifting capability for the strength and durability of the 60 inch 400 lb root grapple. I'll gladly make more trips with the Wicked 60. My L3800 can't cant hurt it because it's built for a much stronger tractor. Don't worry about the wait time it's well worth it. My neighbor purchased a Land Pride grapple for his 60 horse tractor because he didn't want to wait for a wicked sixty. He crushed it on the first day moving firewood. I came in, completed the whole job in 40 minutes, and didn't chip any paint. Boy was he pissed. LOL Wicked 60 all the way!" Craig in NY.

I do not believe that for a second. Landpride is a quality brand. No bashing re-posts by vendors please.
