new Yanmars?

Anyone know the scoop on Yanmar re entering the USA market with tractors etc? I can't wait to learn more,I really like what they make!

Here's what I know. One year ago (June) Mondovi wineries tested four prototype Yanmar tractors in their vineyards. They were so impressed that they expressed an interest to place an order for the production model T80.

The T80 is a rubber tracked vehicle and equipped with a new steering that has been compared to a BMW seven series car. And the units are said to be reasonably priced with tractors offering less features and horse power.

Rainbow Agriculture and Yanmar of Osaka Japan have struck a deal to import and service Napa, Mendacino, Lake and other counties wine vineyards.

I had pictures of the prototypes, but lost them in a hard drive crash....I am pretty sure (by now) that they are here in limited numbers, and probably testing the market.

****edit**** I just did a google search on Yanmar T80 and found some older articles (November??)...but no pictures.

They already sell new equipment in the US....excavators, crawlers, etc. They are exploring the vineyard tractor market (a highly specialized machine with very limited applications).

I think it is wishful thinking re: them re-entering the US compact tractor market. I have not seen nor heard anything form a business standpoint that would make me think they intend to do so. That market is already over-crowded, with many players competing for the small share left after the big 3 or 4 are done.

Can't say it won't happen, but it doesn't seem likely to me.

Here is a thread from way back with some photos of a tracked Yanmar tractor - the X-80 I think it was. Perhaps the experimental version of the T-80??

Maybe California or I will catch a glimpse of the T80. If so we'll snap a photo or two and post it. I've got vineyards on all sides.

I haven't seen one yet, only the ads in Ag Alert. (Farm Bureau weekly newspaper, statewide).

But I'll take a picture if I do!
