Hey folks!
New owner here of a Yanmar ym240d.
I dragged it home yesterday and am excited to get some implements to put it to work.
It was sold under the pretense that it was an Yanmar ym2000, but my research is telling my otherwise.
Throttle position forward is throttle up, and I believe it has an over run clutch on the pto. I can hear ratcheting when I depress the clutch while the tractor is rolling.
I bought it maintain my 4 acre property. Mainly mowing and clearing snow for the family.
Hour meter says is has 400 hours, which I feel is accurate.
The kid (yes kid) I bought it from lives on a 1000 acre farm. His father owns an excavation company. The boy had gotten it from a neighbor who had meticulously restored it. I mean it looks like new.
I知 missing rear fenders, and with the Ag tires, it痴 rather unnerving rolling around at any speed with those monsters spinning away near to you.
I feel like rear fenders are going to be a problem to locate and purchase.
I already have a service manual on the way, and have read the operations manual.
Everything works as intended, meaning nothing has been hacked together for repair.
The listing showed a rather large box blade on the rear of the machine, but when I came to buy, the kid didn稚 want to sell it. Upon inspection, the lower 3 point bracket under the rear end is bent, and the links are bend as well. I suspect he might have loaded it up too much and bent things up. Simple fixes though.
It has a vinyl Cano wrap on it, which doesn稚 bother me too much.
It does come with a loader (a huge selling point to me) but the neighbor who restored it still has it buried in his shop and he has 鍍he Rona so it痴 going to be a couple
Weeks before I can get my hands on it.
The kid is going to get the manufacture and model for me so I can figure out how to get it on the machine.

I have troubles with 1st gear. I can gear it grinding trying to get into gear, but it won稚 stay. All other gears, both high/low and reverse all operate perfectly.
As you can tell from the photos, it痴 in excellent shape and hope to keep it that way.

Very unique! I agree, the throttle looks like a 240.

Not understanding grinding in only 1 gear. I guess I understand what you are saying, just not why it would grind in only one gear.

I tend to question your gear decal labels with a 4 speed transmission and 1/4 on same location and 5/8 also on same location.
That aside, does 1st gear grind in both L&H ranges?
If yes, I would suspect a gear with badly worn teeth.
And yes the lower lift arm pins need some attention! (Lol)
Looks like a great find!
Happy tractoring!

I’ll have to post a video of it.
It’s almost like the lever wont pull far enough back to engage the gear. It also does the same thing in 4th as well. I couldnt get it to do anything yesterday. Lever would pull back, let the clutch out, nothing.
This morning I figured Id let the tractor roll forward slightly, and thats when I could get a little grind out of it. If I held back on the lever firmly, it would stay in gear but If I let off even a little, it would come out of gear.

Another big thing I need to see if I can find is the foot throttle linkage.

Welcome! Yes that's a YM240D, the US version of YM2000D. The serial # YM240-something is stamped into the transmission housing by your left ankle.

That mess under the rear axle isn't where the 3-point arms are supposed to be attached. The leverage between those mounts and the outer sway-chain mounts not being in the same plane, may have been what bent all that. I suspect he fabricated that to replace the original pins that got torn out of the axle housings.

Here's a thread where I described replacing a ripped-out pin, with photos.

Photo - I started by building up missing material with JB Weld (photo) then decided to not use that so I bought a used axle, $350, and put that on instead.

Long ago Yanmar sold a replacement pin that went all the way over to the outer sway chain mount. No longer available, but this might serve as a model to fabricate something. (photo-not mine) (diagram, shows long pin plus normal pin)

The decals appear accurate.
It’s certainly in top gear when in high range, and in 8th gear.
Each gear placement is progressively faster and faster.

The shift decal is accurate, it duplicates numbers cast into the top of the transmission.

The decal looks strange but that's because top gear in each range is 'road gear', much higher geared than what you expect for normal intervals between gears. In low range, shifting 1235 ends up in a higher gear than the lowest gear available in high range. Its intuitive while operating the tractor it just looks funny.

Thanks for the insight!
You’re right, I see the studs in the axle housing.
It appears the left one broke out just like yours, and was welded back together.
I don’t know if the threads are any good anymore. I suspect not, which is why they added this contraption.
I was looking at it and thinking it was an odd design. Nicely gusseted, but really only mounts on one 3/8” flat plate under the rear end.
If it had another brace at the top, to assist in vertical loading, I think it would work nicely.
I’m curious how having those links that low will affect attachments. Those pins are about 6” lower than if they were installed in the axle housing.

In regards to the gear issue, here’s a video of the problem.

Thanks for the input on the shift fork! Dead on right!
I’ll have to get me all new ones since the one is bad. Figured I might as well replace them all.
