You might be thinking of me. I ended up replacing the axle assembly complete, because I don't have the lathe etc to make a long pin like JML did.

Photo - housing with chunk torn out. The pin's threads were bad and loose when I bought the YM240 in 2003. I cemented it in with red Locktite and forgot about it. A decade later it worked loose and I didn't notice it - until the backhoe overstressed the pin, when it was likely halfway unscrewed. Thread where I described replacing the axle housing.

JML that's great news that its back together! You're going to love it after you've worked out the other bugs.

Yep it was you California, and that is the thread that I remember too.

Other kinks on the list:

Starts and runs fine, but as it warms up the oil pressure light starts to flicker.
It flickers in sequence with the lope of the engine each revolution.
After about 30-45 minutes of work, the light is steady on.
Oil pressure sensor appears new. Wondering if maybe the wrong viscosity oil is in the machine.

I also get a charge light every once in awhile but appears to be charging.
Everything else on the machine looks excellent.
I did replace the shift forks and shifter guide plate so now shifts are smooth and crisp.

Last thing to do is pick this up, clean it up, coat of paint t and install it. I知 sure installing it will be an ordeal in itself.

A couple of thoughts:

The oil pressure sender is generic, it fits most 70's Japanese cars and is under $10. Make sure the threads are British Standard Pipe (more tapered than US and different pitch). And it should include the slide-on to screw-on wire connector. Trying this is cheaper than getting a test gauge unless you already have adaptors.

The manual says drop the pan and clean the oil intake screen every 1,000 ??? hours. Likely its never been done. Lightweight oil shouldn't cause the light to flicker before you are severely overheated.

I’m going to put an oil pressure gauge on the machine instead of a light.
I trust gauges more than lights :)

That would have been a tough lesson to learn.
Adapter ordered. I’ll install the gauge in the dash. Not like this tractor maintains stock appearance anyways.

Anyone have a YFL240 manual?
I’m not sure that’s what this is, but guy said it came original on the machine.
Best guess is it’s a YFL240. We’ll see Saturday I suppose.

I agree with California, drop that pan and clean the oil screen, however your oil pump maybe going out as well. It is gear driven but maybe the spring pin is broke or some teeth are missing and you aren't getting the volume needed?.. Just a thought. So that its up to you if you want to replace the pump ($132) at the same time or clean the screen re-assemble and see what happens.

Cool wrap. I'm sure it has been pointed out, I bet fenders won't be that hard to find. There probably is plenty of parts tractors , need to call the right folks .

I actually got fenders. I have to do a little metal work to them then paint to match the machine :)
Also have a loader for it on the back of the truck. It needs love. Needs all new hoses, likely rebuild the cylinders and of course, paint.
But hey, I got one. :)
