As a preference I would like to plant pasture grass that could be broadcast seeded if possible as I could do that with the equipment that I have on hand.
Around here it seems most folks sprig coastal which I would have to hire out. At this point I am thinking I need to get the soil sample done and speak with the county ag extension agent on what would work best at my place. In any event I'd like to do as much of the entire process as possible.
My total acreage is 37+. About 35 acres of that can be made into pasture and I would be happy if that could support a dozen or so cattle without overgrazing.
I realize that even with winter overseeding, breaking the fields up into smaller pastures and rotating livestock to give areas a chance to regrow that there will be several months a year that I will need to throw bales of hay.
