Newbie coming down to $ wire with some doubts

I doubt the Add A Grapple weighs quite that much. It is set up so some of the grapple stays on the tractor when you remove the jaw/tooth/whatever you call it. The weights you quote may be shipping weights. If Add a Grapple is too heavy, there are alternatives. check out Ebay and also some of the numerous grapple posts on TBN. I've posted a photo of a grapple generally available on Ebay. Several guys on TBN have installed them with good results.

Another option: if you have a QA adapter on your FEL you could add a Millonzi grapple. I have the single jaw 48" version but they also make a 60" dual jaw model. Cost of the 48" grapple is well under $1000 and it has significant advantages over a bucket grapple when it comes to moving brush. The bucket grapples are really nice all in one solutions though.

My dealer charged me $500 for the single "Add-a-Grapple". He is not a regular dealer for the item, which is made by Precision Manufacturing (precisionmfg.com). It is listed at 147 lb, but the part you are likely to take on and off looks more like 50 or so. The main mass of the thing is a telescoping 2" or so square tube of heavy steel with some big plates that bolt to the sides of the bucket. The cylinder and fingers mount to fittings with large holes in them that are welded to the tube. A quick connect or two serves to take the hydraulics off, and the rest is held in place with a steel rod and small lynch pins. I posted some small pics of it a while ago on the Case forum.

There are other brands out there, too, I'm sure. Check with a dealer. The things are pretty common for larger tractors.
