I have purchased 6.5 acres mostly woods. I have had a road built and house site cleared. Barn built. Now need as mall tractor to clean up mess leftover from logging and general cleanup, under brushing , bush hogging etc. I have a tight budget. I have seen a ?4 Farm Pro 2420 (Chinese) with box blade for $2900 but cannot decide on a newer Chinese built or try to find a much older unit with better reputation. Not sure a FEL is in my future or not. I am not a particularly good mechanic but more or less a parts changer. Any ideas as to what to look at? Would like to stay under $3K

My first suggestion is to run away from those chinese tractors as fast as you possibly can.

Your budget is very small for most any kind of a tractor that will suit your needs unless you happen across a Ford N series.

That alone will eat up your budget even before attachments.

Looking some more locally today and found a Kubota L200 in great shape with bushog and box blade for $2500. Its a 1971. Would 21 HP be big enough for my needs?

Is that really the most you can afford? U know the old adage pay now or pay later.

If you could get up to the 6,000 range u can get a very good used machine. Deere, Ford, or Kubota. Even at 4k you could get a good farm tractor.

Land purchase, road , barn, well, septic and running electric 800 ft underground have tapped me out for now so I really need to go cheap for now

No, but I guess it's better than nothing.

Take your time with it, don't expect much. It's more like a garden tractor, than an actual tractor to do field and woods work.

It's going to be difficult to do general cleanup, etc using a tractor that doesn't have an FEL unless what you want is to tow a trailer with your tractor and load the debris into the trailer by hand.

You probably can find a Ford 8N for $2.5-3K and a used brush hog for a few hundred bucks. Remember, 8Ns are more than 50 years old and need more or less TLC depending on how hard they were run.

Check Craigs list for used tractors (use SearchTempest). Here are the CL listings and asking prices of the 8Ns in the Chico, CA area (near my place): $500, 1700, 3000, 3500, 2200, 1200. Lotsa 8Ns are for sale all the time.

if you are lucky you can find a ford 00 series with a laoder and hog for about 3500$.. or the ford and hog alone for somewhere in the high 2K range.

I'd go for that vs a lawnmower sized machine ..

spending 500$ more now, may keep you from having a 2500$ investment that won't work for you ina few weeks or months.. and then having to buy something else.
