Tractor
Kubota B7100 HSE
Have 3 wooded acres in N. central Fla.

Have old snapper rider that is due for replacement which I use at home on ½ to ¾ acre lawn (including house). Would like to move uo to a small tractor which would have some capabilities on the acreage. Just use the acreage for camping and recreation and will continue to do so for some time. Don't know when or if we will build on it. Will eventually have well, septic, and power but will have those contracted out.

Plan to preserve the trees and keep mostly natural growth except for some minor clearing, so I envision only needing to do a little brush hogging and mabey some grading on about a 100' access road (land is ~ 300' X 400') when and if necessary. Also intend to utilize the tractor as a replacement for the rider at home.

Have been notified of a 7100, 2wd, gear shift that is available with no attachments at all here in Fla. which by itself would fall within my meager price range ($4000 - is this realistic?)

Are mid-mount mowers (MMM? - Need to get up to speed on the achronyms) available for these older machines?

What other implements should I consider?
I am not limited by time so a small machine which will perform the work slowly is no problem. Will consider any color, would prefer to shy away from "gray" machines.

Been reading TBM forums for a couple of days and there is a wealth of information available.

Sorry for the long post but I am trying to state the full purpose of any future purchase.

Thanks in advance

Daryl, sorry to say, but you will not find a Sub-CUT in your price range. You will be able to find some older small CUTs, and yes there are some, but not many, MMM units that will fit SOME of the older units. Woods make MMM units for older units, but I think you might be better off trying to find a tractor that already has a mower deck. In the midwest we have a lot of older International Cub Lo-Boys that are in reasonable condition that would suit your needs. If those are common in your area it might be worth a look. The IC Lo-Boys were fairly small tractors but were capable and well made.

Thanks for the info.

I guess the sub CUTs are newer machines and there are older machines from the CUT group that would possible meet my needs.

Am I correct that the Kubota 6100s, 7100/7200s are considered CUTs and not Subs?

Generally Sub-CUTS are a new breed of modern small tractors, they typically have a lower profile and less ground clearance than other small tractors, they typically are designed as excellent lawn mowers that are also very capable tractors. An older unit may also be small, but typically have grater ground clearance and may have been used or designed for use in some limited agricultural duty. People adapt them for mowing. Other small tractors may be new, but have greater ground clearance, they are better suited for "tractoring" than a Sub-CUT but make pretty good mowers as well.

There are lots of opinions on exactly which tractor is a sub-CUT and which is not. I think it is fair to say that the Sub-CUTs are at least made up of the Kubota BX, the Massey CG, the JD 2210 and the New Holland TZ series tractors. There are many other modern day small tractors, such as the Kioti CK20, but tractors like the CK have greater ground clearance than the Sub-CUTs and physically are slightly larger.

I would not get hung up on the terms Sub-CUT or CUT, what you are looking for is a small tractor that will fit your budget and perform the tasks you need completed.

Thanks,

Is it possible to find a small tractor for under 4 or 5 thousand if all I'm lookinf for is one that will mow and blade?

Yes you should be able to find some used tractors that will fit your needs and still have plenty of life left in them.

What about the Simplicity Legacy? Would that be a doable option? I don't know much about these little tractors, but I am pretty sure thay can be outfitted with a FEL and backhoe. Not sure of the hitch arrangement for a blade, though. I know you didn't say you needed a FEL or backhoe, I'm just saying what these little machines are capable of. Good luck! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Daryl; With some shopping, I am sure you can find a decent used tractor in your price range. When I was shopping 4 years ago, I found a Kubota B5200 with a 48" MMM in excellent shape for $5500. I went with a new BX because of the large amount of mowing I do. Any of the smaller CUT should work well for you. Good luck,
Will

I like old japanese tractors, and have had the following -

78 Kubota B6000 2wd with MMM and tiller - $3,000
84 Massey 210 4wd with 5ft brush hog - $5,300
82 Mitsu Beaver 2wd with FEL and tiller - $2,500

The last one I currently have, it was a song of a deal and needed a little work. Bottom line is that you can find a name brand, older diesel with lots of life left in your budget. Problem is that these are tough to find. Definately look for the kubotas, but dont rule out the 'odd' brands like Mitsu Beaver, Bolens G152, 172 etc, Massey/Allis Chalmers/Deutz Allis compacts (all the same mechanically) or even an older kioti.

Slap a rear finish or brush mower on any of these little rigs and you have WAY MORE than a garden tractor can provide. Just make sure that the 3 pt and pto are the standard, clock wise rotating - some of these old girls had backwards PTO which you DONT WANT /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Hi...

The attached picture shows a 1982 Gravely 2-cylinder 19hp rear-engine tractor with a 60" mower I bought last fall for ~$1,000...

It will handle a blade if one can be hunted down/made...

I feel older... heavy-duty garden tractors or small farm tractors are good values... usually a good selection for less than $4,000... and they hold their value... or even increase...
