Newbie Question on Plows

Bought a 1820D last winter and have been lurking here for some time. Have had most of my questions answered by doing searches but I have one that I can't find an answer to. So here goes. I am in the market for a plow. My question is what size for my 1820D? 12" or 14" 1 or 2 bottom. Thanks in advance.

I own a 1401 2WD Yanmar and pull a Brinly 3 pt. single bottom. The plow is more or less 10 inches. I have turf tires and coupled with heavy clay ground I need chains to do any good. I recommend a single bottom no more than 14 inches. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I use a single 12" on my 1700. I personally wouldn't use anything any bigger.

Sorry such a late reply, I'm a new member and your post caught my eye.
I have a 1500D (approx. 18hp, 1500lbs. and is 4WD). I moved recently and my new home has never had a garden. I just plowed it last week in my side yard. The ground was a little hard and I hit some clay areas from time to time. I have a 12" moldboard plow and use 3-45lb suitcase weights on the front. Sod is hard to plow in and of itself, besides the clay factor... my tractor had all it wanted. I had plenty of horsepower- it was traction that I suffered. I got the job done but had to be ready to feather my hitch up a little in the hard spots.
I would think a single 12" with your tractor weighted (depending on soil) wouldn't be problem. How much does your 1820D weigh?

I pull a single 12" plow with a YM2000 24 HP +- 1900 lbs.
It is 2wd so traction is the weak link, Sat. I turned -2 acres in mostly clay with not much trouble. Can't even dream about 2 row plows.
