Hello All From Lex. SC,

Let me start by saying the site is great and thanks to all who offer your freetime and knowledge to helping folks like me. I am new to the site and to tractors. I live on a small lot with a privately maintained road that I need to privately maintain. Only because I can't get my cheap neighbors to pitch in for motor grader service, so I will buy a tractor and scrape the road ONLY to my driveway hehe j/k. That and I lease my own hunting land, I probably have all together about 700 acres that need tending too. So I'M SHOPPING YAY! Now I have ALWAYS LOVED and Wanted a FORD 8N. So for the price I would pay for a nice restored 8N I have also been looking at newer diesels in about the same hp range as the 8N. I live about 10 miles for Rinehart Tractor and Supply in Salley SC, but after reading you guys' reviews of them I think I will stay away. I also found these guys Tractor parts, Tractor tires, Mini Trucks, mini truck accessories, mini truck tires, mini truck wheels, used compact tractors, heavy equipment parts, three point kits, tractor manuals They claim the refurb the Yanmars here in the U.S not in Vietnam and they say they install ROPS etc. Have any of you dealt with these guys? Anyway any advice is greatly appreciated.

Take Care,
Shawn

First, get acquainted with TractorData.com for all the specs you'll need when going tractor shopping.

TractorData.com - Farm tractors

I'd stay away from refurb Yanmars and other grey market tractors. Too small generally for your needs. Same for the 8N.

Shoot for a tractor in the 30-40 hp on the pto with an FEL.

Welcome to TBN, deerslayer. You've got good advice here so far. If you are in Deere and MF territory, they would be your top picks for used equipment. That 2040 or something like it would be a good choice to start with, I'd think. You have a bit of a dilemma because your acreage suggests you could use something bigger, but your hauling equipment will have all it can say grace over transporting a 2040-sized tractor, and your budget is probably going to get in the way of buying larger without getting into the "worn-out, money pit" syndrome.

I think you are in a "piedmont" type of topography similar to what we have in north central NC, so you have rolling hills, forest and open land, right?. 4wd is a plus, particularly if you figure there's a lot of loader work in your future. Problem is, budget gets in the way again. A 4x4 with loader is going to cost more and you may not be able to find one in your price range unless it's pretty well used.

Best of luck with your shopping.

I own a 5530 Turbo 4wd - 2008 and TractorData.com does not have a listing for this specific tractor. So I am pointing out that this site is not an updated site for looking at tractor info.... However it my have for other units and it may proove usefull in that respect.
