Please tell me what you think. I am a newbie. I grew up an Iowa farm boy with the old JDs. I recently bought a place with 10 acres of the REAL Florida..,Trees and palmetto etc. I want to clean it up, cut up some of the trees, attempt to grow some grass etc. I want to get a tractor, bush hog, FEL, box blade and few other implements for surface work. I found a reconditioned YM2210D 2cyl diesel (with a new Koyker FEL and a new bush hog) that has been reconditioned and LOOKS and seems to run very good. It has the Zen-Noh decals. The owner (a small time buyer/seller) says he buys from a reconditioner in the Midwest. His price is $7500 with 90 days parts. My problem is that I really like the tractor but detect a slight odor of Vietnam. I have been there and once is enough. I am thinking of doing a little commercial work with the equipment later. Whatdaya think?

Ya know it's a funny thing....we never want to listen to what our gut is tellin' us........ya know it will never lie to you well, except when it says...ya eat the whole bag of Oreo's and I won't make you feel bad in the morning!
Tell us what you got out of his meaning of "reconditioned" just what was reconditioned and if ya don't know ...ask him see if he can answer. It's kind of a funny thing that a little Yanmar tractor that should last well into 3,000 hours or better is needin' to be reconditioned with only (hours here) this many hours on it's ticker........

FWIW, a 2210D, new Koyker FEL, and a new 4' HD rotary cutter (or a 5' LD cutter) would be about $8500 from us(and would INLCUDE all hardware--toplink, etc.- and an OR clutch). Now I admit to making a profit, but not a fortune. That is an awfully good price. Is it an awfully good machine? Ask him for three customer references, one at least two years old.
I am not aware of any "reconditioner" in the midwest. Ask him where specifically. And my ongoing question...WHY would you "recondition" a tractor that was in reasonably good condition to start with? You just make necessary repairs and adjustments, change fluids and filters, and go on. VN or not, the "recondition" term smells by itself, to my way of thinking. We will replace bad seats, steering wheels, etc. but we do not rebuild good engines....and most of ours are good engines.

I would buy it but of course I never went to VN and don't care who did the work if they did a good job. I love my reconditioned 2210. I doubt the same place reconditioned this one because my tractor has a V loader. Soundguy is in Florida and he may know something about this dealer. If the dealer is good I'd buy it. It is a good price if it is quality. Koyker loaders are thought highly of. How many hours per year will you use it? This could make a difference too....LOL

Also.. where are you getting the yanmar from.. is he local?
My only concern is the comercial work. I wouldn't want to rely on a grey market, or antique.. or probably even a chineese unit if I was depending on it for an income. Light or one time use might be ok.
Investigate the recon issue. Recon means different things to different people. Could be hoses, belts, and fluids, paint, and rubber.
Test the machine.. driv eit in all ranges.. get it warm.. see if you can use it under load at the sellers place of business. Check the oil and fluids. Look for any evidence of problems.. or anything that doesn't jive with what the seller says. Lok at the repairs.. if any are evidant. Good repairs? bad repairs? Any painted belts and hoses? Machine sound ok.. all wheel bearings sound ok when spun?

I understand your concern re: a grey unit in a usage where it is relied on every day, but actually, I would strongly consider a 2210D for commercial work, within it's limitations. Strong as an ox, good parts availability (as these units go), relatively easy to work on. The key would be strong support from a dealer who can access the parts and work on it, or a good parts source of your own if you can do the work (or you have someone who can). And I would want a ROPS on it...WHICH, by the way, we should have in another couple of months. OSHA approved ROPS/Belts for many of the YM models.

I agree. If you have a great dealer/parts/service.. ANY tractor should work. If you have a bad dealer/parts/service... even a domestic model will be a problem.
