Newbie Tractor Maintenance

Heres an idea that I stole from my father-in-law; Laminate the pages of your owners manual pertinent to maintenance and leave them in your garage/barn so your manual doesn't become unreadable from the grease.

Keep the tips coming Harv.

My father-in-law just writes the info on the garage wall in black magic marker./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Real old school I guess.

Harv,
Great Web Page. I will be watching it closely....just bookmarked it. I also have the L2500 and the pictures are great. Thanks for the info.

Mr Harv, I'm about to to a full oil change on a L4850, actually, I changed the motor oil, 10 qts of 15W40 Amsoil as per McChalkleys advice. New synthetic gear oil all around. I'm also changing the hydraulic fluid (400 hour service callout) Thats another 46 quarts of Amsoil hydraulic fluid. I opted for synthetic because the tractor calls for a minimum of 10 minutes of warmup on the hydraulic fluid prior to rolling the wheels. I hate to say it, but nobody gives it more then 5 to 7 seconds. Thats the main reason for the synthetic the other is to keep McChalkey off my back. I thought about dumping the oil on the ground and then came to my senses and will collect in 5 gallon buckets. Thats the beauty of these high wheeled vehicles, a 5 gallon bucket fits right underneath. Now I still will have a few gallons of old oil to dispose of, lots of oil, problem is, most places only accept used motor oil, now what? Hmmm, I'll have to think about that. In the mean time, the whole purpose of this response was to let you know that your not alone, at least one other person is out there doing what your doing. Also, it says to change the antifreeze, so I guess thats also in order, now do I go toxic or non toxic just so stinkin many questions!!! Rat...

Paul -

Makes sense to me!

I'll make copies of the pertinent manual pages, laminate them and post them right next to the tractor.

The simple ideas are usually the best. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Pleased to meet you. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I'm trying to remember who else has a 2500 -- the only one I can think of is Jeff_In_NC.

Hey, Muhammad -- have we discussed a way to search the profiles?

Now then, Rod, tell me about your sprayer. Did you buy it, build it, steal it? /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Hey Harv
Glad to help, any time /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

You got it right about maintenance; keep records of everything done, dates, ect.

For the grease schedule, I have got in the habit of greasing every tenth hour. Only takes a minute, and grease is cheap.
