I am in process of purchasing an HDS 2165 Cub Cadet. I would like to know what HDS stands for. I would also appreciate any good sources of how this tractor compares with others and features that are standard. Thank you for any info.

Pretty sure it's not Home Depot Special /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif. Maybe HyDroStatic or Heavy Duty Service? Dunno /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I'm curious to what it means though!

Pretty close JT...There are 2 series in the 2000. AGS (Auto Gear System) & HDS (Hydro Drive System). The 2165 uses the 16 hp Briggs Vanguard OHV (V twin). Possibly still manuf. by IH and not MTD. Not sure. Been around for awhile and have a high rating.

They really aren't that much different from what they are today. The 2165 has the same heavy duty hydrostatic, so its able to pull very well. The auto-gear was their manual transmission with auto clutch I believe. A very dependable heavy duty unit.
You will find that pretty much its going to compare to today's CC 2180 and you'll also find that aside from graphics, its essentially the same. The Vanguard is a jem of an engine, very strong yet quiet. Yours may have the 42" deck which hasn't changed, should also have the quick release feature.
