Hello all,

I am a small hobby type farmer. We currently live on 5 acres with my wife, 2 kids, 2 dogs, 4 sheep, 14 ducks and 30 chickens. I am looking to purchase a new compact tractor around 30hp. I will do my best searching the forum before I ask a redundant question. Please take it easy on me.

Currently only have my simplicity citation xt and a Polaris sportsman 500. Yes I know, neither is a tractor. I have a bad shoulder and my wife has a hard time with a lot of the "farm" chores. We would use the tractor to till our 1 acre garden, use the FEL for cleaning the animal stalls in the barn and occasionally moving some dirt/sand/mulch around the property. Eventually I would like to add on to our pasture so I would consider renting or purchasing a post hole digger. Hope this is enough information.

Twenty to thirty horsepower should be ample. Twenty to ~~ twenty-five horsepower subcompact tractors are smaller and might be more suitable for barn work. Thirty horsepower begins the compact tractor category. There are a zillion tractor brands and models in the thirty-horsepower and under category. I think all diesel tractors in the thirty-horsepower and under category are standard with 4-WD today.

You probably want to consider:

Hydrostatic transmission (HST)

Front End Loader with Bucket (FEL)

R4/Industrial tires

48" to 60" Three Point Hitch mounted PTO powered Roto-tiller.

Probably a 48" to 60" Three Point Hitch mounted garden Cultivator.

~~ Three Point Hitch mounted Auger
