Hello all,

I am a small hobby type farmer. We currently live on 5 acres with my wife, 2 kids, 2 dogs, 4 sheep, 14 ducks and 30 chickens. I am looking to purchase a new compact tractor around 30hp. I will do my best searching the forum before I ask a redundant question. Please take it easy on me.

Thank you

Welcome to TBN.

Please tell us something about your terrain and proposed tractor uses. What do you have now and what won't it do that you want done?

Bruce,

Currently only have my simplicity citation xt and a Polaris sportsman 500. Yes I know, neither is a tractor. I have a bad shoulder and my wife has a hard time with a lot of the "farm" chores. We would use the tractor to till our 1 acre garden, use the FEL for cleaning the animal stalls in the barn and occasionally moving some dirt/sand/mulch around the property. Eventually I would like to add on to our pasture so I would consider renting or purchasing a post hole digger. Hope this is enough information.

Thanks

Twenty to thirty horsepower should be ample. Twenty to ~~ twenty-five horsepower subcompact tractors are smaller and might be more suitable for barn work. Thirty horsepower begins the compact tractor category. There are a zillion tractor brands and models in the thirty-horsepower and under category. I think all diesel tractors in the thirty-horsepower and under category are standard with 4-WD today.

You probably want to consider:

Hydrostatic transmission (HST)

Front End Loader with Bucket (FEL)

R4/Industrial tires

48" to 60" Three Point Hitch mounted PTO powered Roto-tiller.

Probably a 48" to 60" Three Point Hitch mounted garden Cultivator.

~~ Three Point Hitch mounted Auger

Here are a couple Kubota tractor suggestions:

Sub-Compact Tractors | BX-Series | Kubota Tractor Corporation

Compact Tractors | L Series | Kubota Tractor Corporation

Take a good look at the small but heavy Kubota L2501.
