Hi Everyone,

I am new to the tractor game and want to get one to play, I mean work with on my property. I have been looking into the Jinmas (chinese) and found a dealer, but not very local. Also in my internet travels I discovered that this importer is looking to get dealers in my area, which I am very seriously thinking of becoming one myself.

Any thoughts, comments, questions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Lots of research, this is a good place to start. There is another thread on the same topic going on now I think.

Welcome

You might want to post this question on the "China tractor" section. I have a KAMA 454, 45 hp with 4x4. I bought from a dealer 600+ miles away!

I'm sure there is more to opening a dealership than meets the eye.

Since you are the boat-guy, there is a saying in the boat business that if you want to become a millionaire in the boat business, start with two, million that is. In one year you'll be a millionaire. It may be similar in the tractor business.

Either way, welcome to the board. There's something about owning a tractor I find similar to boating. We don't have to really need one to want one, and the less we need it, the more we seem to enjoy having it.

Have fun buddy.

With a little over 1 acre, looks to me like you're in the sub-CUT range. Unless you're moving boulders or trying to knock down oak trees.

I have a 21HP Kubota B7510HST with an LA302 FEL that I bought last May for $12,600 plus tax). I use it on my 10 acre place (flat, a few trees, mostly weeds). The hydrostatic transmission is real nice and easy to operate, especially when maneuvering in tight spaces. I'm one of those people who think that the front end loader is indispensible.

I added a $375 King Kutter (KK) box blade (48" wide), a 48" wide KK rotary mower (brush hog), a 48" wide used Yanmar rotary tiller ($300), and a KK middle buster (potato plow)/subsoiler combo unit ($135). Obviously, you can drop a bundle on implements since it's easy to convince yourself that you gotta have these.

One implement I don't have is a mid-mounted mower (MMM) for the Kubota. That's a pretty pricey landscape mower as opposed to the brush hog, which is mostly for weeds and brush, not for precision cutting. Instead, I'm looking for a 25HP riding mower right now to take care of about 1 acre of landscaping that I'll be installing around my new house this Spring.

Lotsa luck with your tractor-quest.

A boat has been defined as a portable hole in the water into which you throw money -- the bigger the hole, the more money you throw.

If you're not careful, getting into tractors can be the same thing. Decide up front what kind of things you need or want to do with it. If not, you will find yourself buying some implement first and then deciding on a project to justify the purchase in your (or the wife's) mind.

It's a whole lot of fun, in an adult sort of way. "The only difference between men and boys is the amount of money they spend for their toys."

So, you're telling me that a tractor is a large hole in your field into which you pour your cash so as to not have too much just lying around.

I had always heard that about a boat, 23 years at Sea Ray Boats Inc. will teach you that. I've just moved holes. Bummer

Thanks

When buying a larger boat with a head, you should test the plumbing first using the following method:

1. Throw a $100 bill into the head and flush it.
2. If the bill disappears, the plumbing works fine.

If anything about this test bothers you, you can't afford the boat.

I haven't figured out exactly how to test a tractor. I suppose mowing/disking/tilling a few large bills into the ground should do it.
