Newborn Calf question????

   / Newborn Calf question???? #11
Very normal, we often find a cow that shows signs of recent calf delivery, but no calf, so we look for it. Most times we find it where momma hid it, sometimes we don't see any calf for 3-4 days then they just appear together. Only 1 time did the calf never show up (50-60 new borns per year).
The only concern is predators (coyotes, wild dogs etc.) if the calf is not protected by mom and her friends. Nature has a pretty good way of taking care of things.

I also say the situation seems quite normal. The most important thing that I used to be concerned about was that the calf got that first drink of colostrum soon after birth. Under normal circumstances the cow will attempt to nurse the calf immediately after birth once it can stand, and nature takes its course.
