Another wierd story: a friend caused an auto accident. There was a car stopped at a redlight and my buddy rearended the other guy. When the police arrived, they determined the other guy was drunk....he was charged with DUI and causing the accident. I can see the DUI; but, causing the accident? )</font>

Really strange and any lawyer could beat the charge without straining.

Another absurdity. Last year a guy got the local PD (Spokane Wa) policy changed with one complaint. He was stopped in the middle of a string of cars (3 or 4 IIRC), was hit from behind and shoved into the car in front of him. Ticketed for being at fault and it turned out that was the policy. Automatic 'at fault' ticket for everyone in such circumstances.

Not anymore after the story hit the newspaper.

Sounds like the cops misunderstood the "policy", or it was JUST that, a policy of the local PD. (Which is NOT law, and they have exceeded their authority when they establish such policies.)

In Calif, the guy who did the hitting would be on the hook for all cars in the chain.

Like the guy who hit me at 55. I totaled the car in front of me, she did some good damage to the next car, and one more car got damaged. The stupid kid who never touched his brakes was liable for the whole enchilada, 4 cars plus his.
