1998 NH 1920 4x4
I found a 1998 NH 1920 with about 500 hrs on it. It has a FEL, bachoe (with subframe mount), and ag tires. The price is $16,500. I haven't seen it yet, but I am planning on going to check it out in a few days. I was told that it is in very good shape, with no leaks. The hoe is made by Long, which seems strange to me. I didn't know that Long made attachments for other tractors. I would like to know what you guys think. Is this a good deal? What should I look for when inspecting?

The hoe is probably a standard mount that will work with most any tractor.

Last Oct. I picked up a '98 1920, 4x4, FEL and a NH 757C Backhoe. This is the frame mount hoe. The rig had 192 hours on it, was pretty clean(One fender dent and some scratches here and there, FEL dented in center) with no leaks. Paid $17,200 (No Tax!) from a guy on Ebay and he delivered from Tx. and sold me the trailer for $600. The trailer was the steal, the tractor was fairly priced, perhaps a little bit of a deal and I've got over 100 Hours on it digging over 2000 feet of trench, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Amazing how therapeutic tractoring can be. Local NH guy had 1720, more hours and 10 years older, similar setup with top and tilt for $15,500. I figured I'd be better off spending a little more, getting a little more HP and having less fix time.

My experience with the local NH dealer has been good. I can go in and talk with the mechanics and they'll help you diagnose the problem and you can decide if you want to fix or hand it off to them. I had my FEL control valve go out which caused the Power beyond to not function (Hyd. fluid bypassing to sump) and it was a real trick to figure out.

Pretty happy with the tractor. I've rolled it, stuck it, unstuck it and recently picked up a disc harrow, box scraper and mower for it. Mine's got the 12x12 manual tranny and sometimes I wish I had a shuttle shift but I don't.

Perhaps Billfires will see your post and let you know about his 1920. Pretty similar to mine except he's got a beeffier ( I think) backhoe in the 758 model as well as turf tires versus my R1's.

Best of luck and feel free to shoot me any questions you might have. You'll find all kinds of good free and sage advise here on TBN. Seeing as how no backhoe is included and they run new about $5500, I either got a steal or you ought to be able to get them down on the hours and no B/H. I think Billfires paid roughly what I did. Course, someone else may be willing to pay that much for it w/o the BH. Gather knowledge and use it to negotiate a better price on the rig. If it's a private party, they may think it's worth more but with data, you can help them see the real value in what they've got. If it's a dealer, they may be including refurb costs, commissions etc...

Back the pack, as Todd stated I have a 1920 also. I paid $17000 w/7308 FEL and 758C BH. The tractor had 72 hours on it and was in like new condition. It is a 2000 year model and was purchased new in Oct. 2000. I have put about 27 hours on it so far and have been happy with it. The ground clearance of the BH subframe with the turf tires is minimal. The previous owner had the turf tires loaded and I am seeing rust along the valve stems. I also had the "cool running" problem that has been well documented on another thread. The dealer supplied a plastic clamp and this has seemed to fix the problem. The 1920 was a bit larger than what I was origanally looking for but will be a good fit. Good luck and have fun tractor shopping.

Well, I did it! I now have my first tractor! It turned out that the backhoe was actually a Woods B7500. I am very pleased with the deal I got. I got them down to $15,500 including a 350 mile delivery. The tractor has a big dent in the front hood, but other than that it is great. Speaking of the dent, does anybody know where I could find replacement body parts? I know I will probably put several of my own dents in it, but I would like to go ahead and fix it.

Congrats,, neighbor.... Sounds like you did well. Especially with the delivery part. /w3tcompact/icons/clever.gif That will save a little wear and tear on your truck and keep the heart rate down at the same time. Being pushed down a mountain by a loaded trailer just ain't no fun at all /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif
So now the fun begins... don't forget the photos..... If you need a little help in flattening out that mountian, remember I am just down the road. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif I hope that you get years of fun (work) out of your new toy (tool)
Enjoy

Pack Man, Congrat's. I was second guessing myself while waiting for my 1920 to be delivered and kept thinking I shoulda bought a 'Bota - But I'm very happy with this tractor. I guess you, Billfires and I can start a NH 1920 thread!

For the hood, take it to a body shop - Should be able to lift it off. Get online with NH and order the manual now - Is the woods Backhoe a frame mount? You'll have alot of fun with that. I dug up about 2000' of trench and I was surpised out how stratight I was able to keep the trench.

I went out and bought some used implements about a month ago - 5' Mower - 5' Box Scraper and a really ugly disc that works just fine. I've got 12 Acres - Your gonna have alot of fun. Enjoy.
