New Holland 3045
I have a 2010 NH 3045 tractor with remote hydraulics which I wish to use with a bucket grapple. Unfortunately, the grapple action is much too fast and external flow restrictors cause eratic action when flow is restricted enough to slow the action. Is there any internal adjustment or change which is available to solve my problem?

I assumed that the remote valve is matched to the tractor flow, however, the loader bucket controls work normally with similar sized cylinders using the tractor built-in hydraulics. Because the action is so much different I wonder if the remote hookup has its own flow rate, etc.

What flow restrictors are you using? Got part numbers?

In an open center hyd system, all valves get the same fluid. Someone could have used a smaller flow valve down stream such as in a remote valve situation.

Some say smaller hose to the grapple will reduce the speed.

A larger cyl would slow it down.

Do you have a picture of your grapple setup?

If you change the geometry of the grapple connections. Otherwise lengthen the push point on the grapple. The further out the push point, the slower it will move.

The restrictors (2 used) ar HydraStar Flow Control Valves. These restrictors can close down the flow to zero.

The remotes on your tractor are designed to provide full flow to the remotes. In your case, that's probably 8.5 gpm when the valve is wide open. You can feather the valve to a small extent. You'll hear the engine loading as the valve is moved off center because you are closing down the open-center system to route flow to the remote. I used a single fixed 0.030" orifice in my system and 1/4" hoses. You only need a restrictor orifice in one hose. I'm able to feather my remote lever and my single cylinder grapple can be manipulated nicely with just my remote lever. It does take a soft touch on the lever, but I'm extremely satisfied with my control. I'm just not sure what you mean by your restrictors causing erratic operation.

Here are photos of my orifices. I buy these for $4.95 each at my New Holland dealer.

When you shut down the orifice toward zero flow the grapple becomes very jerky. I believe now that the grapple I procured is too highly leveraged with the cylinder (small cylinder move, large grapple movement). If I am to use this grapple I believe I need something to isolate the full tractor pressure/flow rate from the grapple circuit other than a straight restrictor. I had tried a .030 orifice on my first try with unusable action. My hoses are probably too large (1/2" and 3/8"). But thanks for your input----

Can you show a picture of the cyl geometry? I would replace the hoses with 1/4 in, and put a restrictor in the circuit, like jinman did. If your remote valve is to large for the tractor flow, You will not have much feather. Maybe switch to a 10 GPM valve.

The remote valve was installed by NH but I will check on availability and price of a smaller one. Also,I will look at changing the hoses to 1/4". I believe a correct installation of your idea regarding the external priority divider valve might be the way to go if I can see a diagram showing how it would work with a push/pull cylinder. I have no picture and cannot change the cylinder geometry without a lot of cost. Thanks for your input!
