Hello TBN. I'm looking into getting a new to me mower to replace my aging NH 477, keeping it as a backup. A dealer near me has a 492 and a 1465 for sale at similar pricing, $4750 for the 492, $5500 for the 1465. The pictures of both machines make them out to both be in pretty good shape. I plan on going there Friday to look at them, with the intention of pulling one home.

Opinions/experiences with these machines? Pricing seems to be in line with most other MoCos I've been looking at. Would it be worth taking the older 492 and saving a bit, or go with the newer 1465?

NH 492 serial number: 896697

NH 1465 serial number: 602566

To stir the pot and promote discussion, I'll throw in the 488 they have.

NH 488 $5750, serial not listed or shown in pictures.

By picture, the 492 has the best rubber. Rubber on the 488 seems the most worn. All three show better rubber than my 477, which has splits and some missing rubber near the center of the top roller.

I prefer the 488 design, but the rolls on that one scare me. Based on the photos I壇 buy the 492. Check both over carefully, make sure the wobble boxes are not sloppy, check the rear tongue mount pin bosses for cracking and previous repairs. Check the gearboxes for oil. Forget the dollar differences, buy the one in better condition.

Where would the travel lock be located on the 492/1465?

Any significant differences between the two to take into account?

None. Actually if you had a 489 with updated conditioning roll driveshafts it would be the same as well.

I'm now the proud owner of a NH 492 haybine.

That looks nice, can you post a couple more pictures of the hydraulic tongue swing mechanism? Considering copying something like that to go on our mower conditioner.

Thanks

Not a problem. These were taken in the dark, so might not be the greatest. Let me know if there's anything else.

In the first picture here, you can see the hose coupler has a flat point instead of a ball. Haven't seen that type before. Will these be fine for use, or should they be changed out for a ball valve type? Tractor has ball valve type.
