I just purchased a brand new 1720 with a 7308 loader and I have found 2 areas that concern me. The loader's boom cylinders will not apply enough down pressure to lift the tractors front end off of the ground. Only by using the bucket curl pistons is it posssible to lift the tractor. I also have a concern about the lift capacity, it just seems that the tractor should almost stand on it's nose before the boom cylinder's hydraulic relief valve opens. Instead the boom relief valve opens immediatly when trying to pick a heavy load.
Is this normal for a 7308 and can the relief valve pressure settings be adjusted?

Thanks,

PatM, I have a Ford 1910 with a factory loader and the FEL boom excursion is not enough to lift the front off the gound- I need to use the curl. Hang it over the ditch and check it out.

Your concerns are normal for a new owner. And unfortuneately so are your problems. It is normal for the loader lift cylinders to not lift the front end off the ground. Due to the fact that when the bucket is on the ground the cylinders are all but competely retracted. However the bucket will do the job as you stated. As far as the lifting problem, my perception of a heavy load may be different than yours. If you are trying to lift a rounded, full bucket of dirt, it probably won't do it. Being that it is new, I would take it back to the dealer or have them come out and pressur test the system to make sure there isn't a problem. I do believe the relief is adjustable if it is out of spec.
