Dealer NH Dealer Sez Tractor Supply Is Dwindling!

"Big Blue," as my wife calles it, just arrived at my dealer today. Since this is our first tractor, I had to run over to see our new family member. It will still be a few days before they have it prepped and ready to deliver to our farm.

HOWEVER, in talking with the dealer, I found out something others of you might be interested in.

The dealer told me that I should be glad I ordered my tractor when I did (eleven days ago).

Why?

Because there has been an unanticipated run on NH tractors in the last few weeks, and as a result, the supply of tractors is dwindling rapidly. He's having a hard time finding some models right now for people who are purchasing today, and he anticipates that folks who wait another few weeks might have to wait as much as a couple of months for delivery of their new tractor.

This dealer talked as if this run on supply has caught them offguard.

At any rate, if you're thinking about buying a NH tractor, you might want to move on it soon.

Honestly, that seems to be a constant issue with NH. Its nothing new. They don't do a very good job of inventory managment.

Do they also increase the price because the supply is low, the demand must be higher?

Demand is very regional and they do not make price adjustments on that level. They are more concerned with keeping price inline with the competition.

Now your local dealer may adjust the price for demand... but NH will not.

There are steel supply / cost problems.. The supplier that we buy our culvert pipe from can't deliver right now either.. in fact he isn't even bidding on our current jobs.. He says in the last month, he has seen his cost prices from materials go up 43%.. Highest he has seen in previous years was 12% increase.... I'm sure this has something to do with it.

Necessity being the mother of invention.. I suspect we should -expect- to see lots of fiberglass and plastic parts on new tractors /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Often times, it's dramatic increases in costs, or shortages, are what spur innovation. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Deere has gone to all plastic from the small comapcts to combines to the large row crop tractors.

I agree with you Gerard, but I hear lots more about the shortages of steel here than I do in the auto industry that uses far more steel than the tractor industry. I think the low supply of tractors is more likely due to seasonal demand. My dealer has more tractors on his lot than I have ever seen. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif The JD place and Kubota dealer also have a high stock level.

Indeed, plastics are the future, but many high-tech plastics are more expensive than steel.
