I think that I already responded to you on the yt board. Advertise on that board and uship. Check references. I restore old ford tractors and have had over 20 of them moved. You should be able to get close to 1.00 a mile if you are patient. I do this all the time with tractors and implements. The quote you have is too high.

personally i think you have a real good price on hauling your equipment that far.most haulers here charge $4 a loaded mile,an your being quated a tad over $3.50 a loaded mile.

Ar eyou sure on $4 per mile. In the Chicago area it is no where near that. $2.50 per loaded mile is about average arround here.

Hauling livestock and hauling iron are two different enterprises. You start waving $4 a loaded mile around to truck equipment, you're gonna get run over by guys wanting to take your money.

Backhauls are tough to find when you are hauling a pot of livestock to slaughter.

Danica,
As High12 suggests check out UShip. I had a tractor shipped from Michigan to Ohio about 350 miles, and it was about $1 a mile. With UShip, you can post how much you are willing to spend, and then haulers will bid on your offer. It keeps them from dead heading, and makes a few $$ on what would be an empty load for them. I was well pleased with the service. You have to be flexible on time for shipment but can sure save a bundle. Don't be fooled by what UShip quotes for the usual charge, way high. Post a reasonable amount for what you want, and see where it goes.

Danica may not get all the way down to 1.00 because of the extra stuff that will have to be individually loaded, but you never know with haulers looking for backhauls. I have also had good luck with the "Hauling Schedule" on the ytmag website - you can post a haul just like Uship. Ytmag is a sub-board of the "yesterday's tractors" website.

ALWAYS check references on any hauler.

PS - bought my L3010 used from an ad on this board and had it hauled from west TN to east PA at a little over 1.00 per mile including bushhog, finish mower and posthole digger

Found the hauler on ytmag website

I also covered all his tolls, roughly another $30.00

Instead of listing the items you have to haul, figure out just how they need to be situated on a trailer and measure the amount of space that is required. Then mention the methods that you have for loading at the origin and the methods you have at the destination. These things were left open-ended by your post and are vital in getting a reduction in your rate. Another thing is to state a maximum load and unload time, such as anything over 1 hour pays detention of $85 per hour wait time.(2 hours is the industry normal wait time before detention kicks in) Adding to that if you can accept the load 24/7 with less than two hours wait time (gotta get outa bed requires an hour to get ready for most people) but make sure the driver is required to call ahead 24 hours in advance for the middle of the night deliveries with a time of arrival. Present this info to the brokers along with a $1.85 to $2.25 price per mile using milage you calculate on mapquest. Doesn't have to be exact, just that much per mile for that many miles. Don't ask them for a quote, give them your freight which pays this much and see if you get any better results. C.O.D with a bank check might also get your rates down, but make sure there are no hidden damages before you take delivery, cause once you pay for it, it gets really hard to collect from a trucking company. Good luck with it.

My experience:

Uship. Have the weights handy. Have the pick up and drop off points manned for easy meets. If possible, palletize the parts and have your tractor sitting with forks to load/unload.

Each end needs to handle how they will move the load: terminal -- easy for anybody; your house (both ends) no ramp/dock -- how are you going to load/unload?

On Uship, they need weights and measures (online links are good -- include any wheel weights or fluid filled tires).

Good luck!
