NH LX865 Skidsteer Locked Up???

Moisture can enter the gearbox/parkbrake housing causing the water to freeze thus locking the parking brake discs in place. The best solution would be to remove the drive motor and the brake housing cover and clean the housing. While in there you should see one or two holes that have magnets around them. They are probably "fuzzed" over not allowing oil to flow in and out of the brake housing. This is not a difficult fix especially since the 865 was a single speed.

I will clarify that when I took the mechanic it was warm outside. It acted up a week later when I went to demo it, It had sat since I ran it and it was below freezing. Also, I've been checking the machine trading/selling sites and have a good idea what this machine is worth and what they are going for....I've learned SS's hold their value unless they are a total POS.

Im also interested in this machine because Im told its the same as the JD 8875? Just different motor and or drivetrain????????????

Stopped by the dealer the other day. He said he couldn't find any water in the gearbox. He doesn't know what the problem could be and seemed frustrated. (He has internet so I don't know why he hasn't checked this site). After being in the warm workshop, the machine operated without any issues. So my guess is the same as Mike10 with moisture freezing the brake. Now, I just need to negotiate the RIGHT price.

The gearbox is setup so oil flows from the gear potion of the gearbox to the brake housing. The holes that allow the oil to flow into the brake housing have a round magnet like a doughnut around these holes. The magnets keep metal from the brakes from entering the gear portion of the gearbox. Works great, but what happens is the magnets can catch too much material and actually plug the holes so no oil can flow into the brake housings. What oil is left in the brake housing can leak or evaporate out and condensation enters the brake housing and when the temp falls below freezing the brake disc will be frozen tight. It is entirely possible that the oil in the gearbox showed no sign of water.
