NH TC33DA vs. JD 4310

VTer -

Where are you doing your shopping. I'm not far from you (Monkton, VT). I bought a TC33D a few years ago from Derek at Champlain Valley Equipment on Exchange Street in Middlebury. Got a good deal, and they've been great to work with. They are also Kubota and Case dealers, so you can see various models side-by-side. Just down the road from them on Route 7 just north of Exchange St is one of the better JD dealers in the area.

I ended up with a Woods 1012 loader on my TC33D, since I was not nuts about the 7308 loader that was standard NH. Since then, NH has upgraded both the tractor (to the TC33DA) and the loader (14LA). I would not hesitate to buy that combination. The 14LA loader is a great design... better dump and rollback angles (not to mention lift capacity) than the 7308. The dump angle especially is nice if you have any of the Champlain Valley clay soils like I've got here in Monkton.

Hi - Thanks for the info. The NH pricing I received was from Bechard Equipment in Champlain, NY. They are right across the Rouse's Point bridge up North. I took a trip there this week to take a look. I did call the Middlebury folks but they were considerably more expensive; ~ 2.5K more for the same package. I was thinking of taking a trip down there this week to see if they could improve their pricing along with getting a better comparison with the JD.

The JD dealer I called was Yandow's in Ferrisburg - they seem real professional and service oriented. I thought their pricing was pretty competitive from what I can see. I did visit and got to buzz around on the 4210, which I liked. It would be nice to see them side by side as it is difficult to remember your impression of one while you look at another.

Also, NH has extended their 0%/48 month financing until the end of November so I'm not forced to make a decision in the next day or so.

Thanks for the input as I am still leaning towards the NH. BTW, my soil is good old Vermont rock and dirt. I can't put a shovel in the ground without coming up with rocks...which is one reason I have some nice rock walls around the property.

I was in a similar situation about a month ago only I was shopping for my wife and MIL as well. Granted they are not kids, but there lack of tractor experience was a hurdle that I needed to contend with.

When I was going to buy, cash in hand, I was thoroughly convinced that I was coming home with a NH.

I stopped at the Massey dealer on the way and checked out 1328V (I think). It was a nice tractor but right next to it was a Mahindra 3015. It was $1,000 more for the additional hp and a collapsable ROPS.

Got done there went to NH and the dealer tried to stick it up the "old tail pipe." When I called his bluff he became frazzled and I realized that he was not the dealer for me.

Ultimately, I went back to Mahindra and made the deal. The 3015 was my new toy. Since it arrived two weeks ago I have not had much time to operate it, but daily I am getting updates on all of the projects that my wife and MIL have completed while I was at work.

Prior to stopping at the dealership, I was skeptical of the Mahindra with it not being one of the top 3 but I now know that it has a storied tradition and that it has been a good toy so far.

Just my .02 worth

Arrrrrrrgh...my impersonation of the Howard Dean scream...after all, I'm from Vermont! Another tractor to consider!

Seriously, I think I like the NH TC33DA and the Kubota L3130 GST (seems like the best value). Both have pretty good write ups in these forums. Yes...I know the Kubota is larger but the price delta is not that much...just don't know if I want a tractor that large and does not have the great loader visibility of the NH.

I like the NH visibility with the sloping front end. My friend, however, does not think it looks like a "real" tractor...beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

The JD price differential just seems too much. Maybe I'm missing something...is this the cost of buying a product with more assembly/production in the US or just paying for the name???

Thanks for the input.

Pricing is VERY regional. Here in the midwest, JD & NH are often neck and neck in terms of pricing. In some areas JD costs less, in other areas it is NH. I doubt that the pricing is based on more or less assembly costs, but rather I think it is probably based on regional differences and preferences.

I purchased a New Holland TC33DA a few months ago and am happy with it overall. Mine has the Supersteer option which is not available on the competitive models (not even on the otherwise identical Case DX33).

The supersteer option is great, you can practically spin around in place with it! I have a quick attach bucket also. One minor drawback to the supersteer is that changing implements on the loader requires some getting used to. When steering towards the attachment, the loader arms actually move in the OPPOSITE direction of the tractor body initially. I quickly learned to adjust to this however.

As for negatives, the electrical wiring is cheap and poorly protected. I tore some wires off the underside while driving through some tall brush. I had to tape and wire tie them in a more protected fashion, which will hopefully prevent a reoccurrence. There's also a design weakness in the oil cooler hoses which you can read about elsewhere on this site.

So far, none of the drawbacks have been anything that I haven't been able to deal with.

You should definitely drive a TC33DA with the Supersteer option, I think you'll like it.
