John maybe you ought to start a thread and ask the good folks here at TBN. See how many tractor owners are happy with service obtained at dealerships other than where they purchased their tractor. Might make for some colorful conversation at the least and we may all learn something.

Mike, that sounds like a project for someone who really cares. I don't. I just found it interesting that in the time I've been on this forum I've read lots of posts that said dealers do this, but not any where an owner actually said he/she had had this problem.
Of course, now, someone will magically come up with one right?

I bought a new truck from NY, but I get it serviced near Cincinnati, about 2o miles from where I live...and they treat me great. I think part of the reason is because they're such a large dealer and the sales goofs don't have time to run to the service dept every time they see you pull in to tell them to treat you like crap /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I did run into the sales guy I talked to a few times before buying elsewhere...and he was just as friendly as before. I guess it just depends on your area and the people. Personally, I think it's childish for people at a dealer to treat you bad or second rate just because you didn't buy from them. I do however expect them to give a slightly higher priority to people that buy from them...but if they're obligated to do warranty work, they should...and not fuss about it. If they were doing the work for free, I'd let them fuss. But since they're not doing it for free, they need to do the work and not whine about it. If they want to whine about it, they should get out of the new tractor sales and only sell used stuff so they don't have to be obligated to anyone but their own childish self /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Support your local dealer when you can, yes. But if a consumer finds a great deal elsewhere and needs to go somewhere else to buy, so what? Does that make the consumer an evil person and the dealer justified in treating that consumer like crap?...no.

As for our tractor - we bought it at the local dealer where it's also serviced. Actually, they come to our place to work on it unless it's something that can't be done 'in the field'.

If I had to guess, I'd bet there are more cases of people not getting that promised "high priority" service from the dealer that sold them their tractor than there are getting the feared "low priority" treatment from a dealer that didn't. I say judge each dealer by his own merits, and support the one you like the best, even if it costs a little extra. Having said that, when a dealer quotes me a price thousands higher than others in the same market, I find it very difficult to like him the best!

You know, I'd bet that too. I recieved an email today from a man who has a new tractor with a hydraulic cylinder leaking. His dealer told him, "I'll take care of that when you're in for your 50 hour service." Now what kind of "good local dealer" treatment is that?
I advised him to readdress the situation with the dealer as it's not right for the owner to have to continually assure there is enough fluid in the system because the dealer doesn't want to be bothered. Low fluid levels could lead to an overheated pump that may suffer damage to it. He shouldn't have to wait.

I sure can't complain about our dealer! I call the roaming mechanic on his cell phone and explain what's going on. So far he's ordered a new dipstick, seat belt and all four rubber boots on the steering linkage just on my word (without looking at the tractor first). H's already replaced the seatbelt. Point is, he listens and responds immediately. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I think in the long run most dealers will do the little things to please the customers. Good service means the customer is more likely to return for future purchases on equipment, supplies, etc.
