Ever since having kids in the house, the scatterguns went into the safe instead of around the unsecured bedroom areas. I don't mind a pistol for home defense, but hard to beat a good old reliable pump at night if you have to get out of bed.
Problem was, didn't want a safe upstairs (money to boot) and never feel safe with trying to hide a gun, particularly with kids, because they can have a knack for finding things.
Found the "Shot lock" and it peaked my interest. At first, sticker shock at the $130 "best price" I could find at Costco (for better or worse, can't seem to find it cheaper anywhere else).
However, looked at Mossberg's "lock box", and heck, that was $45 and it looked pretty cheesy to me.
Thing I like about the shot lock is you don't need a key (unlike Mossberg).
Combo is a push button, and you have to know the sequence of operation to open it as well as the combo. I can literally open the "box" in a second, and the gun stays secure in the box even if the box is open.
Fact is, if someone breaks in and no one is home, I have no doubt that with a crowbar you'd be able to peel the box (as well as the gun) off the wall, but then it's still going to be a bugger to open it without damaging the gun (thus no "high dollar" guns in the box LOL).
It's not a perfect solution, BUT, it will keep people from being able to access the gun who are in the home who shouldn't have access to it.
