I saw it first thing...have learned that when something doesn't look right...keep looking until you find the problem. Saw nonposinous snake this morning and yesterday laying still in the grass.

My wife is terrified of any and all. I have caught three (two garters, one rat) so far this spring and relocated them on her behalf.
Snakes in general I am good with and they have their place in this world, but I hate cottonmouths. I don't have a choice but to kill when I see one on our place. Too dangerous with my child playing outside. SOB's hold their ground.

I have to agree with Dusty. Non-poisonous, native snakes I don't have any problem with, and love having them around. Not that we have any up in New Hampshire (except for a very localized timber rattler population on the other side of the state) Rattlers, Copperheads, Cottonmouths, and Coral snakes are all shoot on sight, terminate with extreme prejudice, turn into hat bands and belts. We don't have Burmese pythons up here, but I suppose they're big enough to get some decent material to make shoes, pocketbooks and wallets out of too.

jerrybob, the thing about a cottonmouth that is so creepy ain't how long they get, it is how big around. One three to four foot long is a great big un and will be bigger around than a mans arm. And his head, mercy, it's head. Lay our hand out flat on the table palm down, now in your mind take off your thumb and fingers, what is left would be the size of a full growed nasty cottomouths head, body as big around as your upper forearm, and about three feet or a little more long. NASTY!

Wow....thank for the explanation....glad we don't have them here!!

When I was very little my cousin and I wondered from home to a nearby golf course to find golf balls. We found a few and at one point in our little excursion we crossed over a little bridge that went over a wet area. Down below was a coiled up cotton mouth. I know it was a cotton mouth because it open its mouth and showed it's, errr, ah, attitude. My MIL would use a different word.:laughing::laughing: No way we were a threat to that snake but it looked up at us and gave us what for....

A few weeks ago I was talking to my parents about this little excursion and we got on Google Earth to take a look around. :D:D:D I swear I found the bridge we crossed but much in the neighborhood has changed. I did not see the snake in the photo.:laughing::laughing::laughing:

Later,
Dan

I see him now that he been pointed out.........how long is that snake???

He was 3-4ft easy, about full grown. I let the non poisonous go usually. Poisonous eliminated, no questions asked. Too dangerous with my daughter (2years old) around.
