I think you are mistaken regarding the opossum. Opossums aren't a threat to a cat. It's the other way around, although they will likely avoid each other, since the chance of injury from taking on something your own size is pretty good. Opossums usually borrow old burrows. They don't do any foundation digging around here. Rabies is virtually unknown in opossums, although it is possible for them to get it, since they are a mammal.

The cat is smart enough to leave a wide berth between herself and the raccoons. We keep her vaccinations up to date.

Thanks for correcting me...found this site for my further edification on opossums...:D National Opossum Society

I guess we were just lucky... when we had our rabid oppie...:(

Our barn cats are VERY territorial and they have had their run-ins with both critters... ...really pleasant...:( taking the one to the vet for some stitches...

Thanks. It works off of C Cells or an external 12 volt battery pack. I have no idea how long the C cells will last. I haven't had it very long, and it is still on the original set. The battery indicator still shows a full charge.

I have heard the batteries can last a month or more, even in continuous operation.
Another thing I wanted to ask you was how long does it take for your camera to take night photos with flash (if it has flash)? Mine takes forever to load up to take a night flash picture, so I miss a lot of shots. The camera is tripped but the game has already moved on....plus it takes a long time for sequential shots to occur. So I get 3 night shots of nothing.:)
Does yours do that too? If not, I'm interested in that technology. At first I was put off by the night time black and white pictures but seeing yours, they are not bad at all. Very good in fact.

There is a trigger delay. I have read reviews that indicate in is the in the three second range. I also get shots with nothing in them.

It does not have a flash. It has an IR illuminator, which is an array of infrared LEDS. They don't have to charge up like a flash strobe does. Once it does fire, it takes sequential shots about 1.5 seconds apart. The number of shots is programmable.

There is an entire hobby of people building these things themselves using moderately inexpensive digital cameras, water proof cases, and trigger boards made for the hobbyists. From what I can tell, the home made units are cheaper, provide much clearer pictures, and trigger much faster. However, it isn't clear if they are using the IR illuminators.

Take a look at Chasing Game.
