I was thinking the same thing. I knew I had seen some 4x4 250 or 350 Ford vans around here. Was not sure if it was factory or a aftermarket conversion.

Chris

One of the carpet guys around here use to get a new Quigley Conversion and plow on snow contracts with it in the winter. He would replace the van every 5 years or whatever.

It seems like there would be a niche in the contractors market for the 4x4 vans.

Too bad he didn't teach you proper grammar so you don't sound like an idiot..
Only 1/2 ton that holds a candle to the Titan is the F150 3.5 Eco Boost and the 5.7 Tundra. Dodge and GM are so far behind they think they are leading. LOL
Chris.
Gee, that Titan sure sounds like a perfect truck. That must be why they sell so well.
The Titan has the lowest power, lowest payload, lowest tow capacity, oldest design, shortest warranty and the worst fuel economy! Yeah, those other trucks certainly can't hold a candle to that.

Back on topic: A 4wd cargo van would be nice but a SRW van with some weight in the back sure does pretty well in the slippery stuff. Just ask any UPS or FED-EX driver.

Yeah but they are useless when you have to back a trailer up a grassy hill.

My ex FIL told me to never argue with a idiot, they will beat you up and down with their years of experience.

These vans are getting very popular here. Good power, tow ratings, and price point. Big hvac company has about a dozen, police have a few, Enterprise Rentals, ect.

Just a tad bit over the top, don't you think?...I don't think my GMC is behind anything..In fact, when I mash the pedal most things are quickly behind me.:D

I have had second and third gen Ford vans and a couple of GM's. The only one that really went in snow was a sixty six GM, flat windshield, six banger with three on the tree and a posi rear.

Anyway, Quigly has been around quite awhile. If you really need some weight capacity, they can set you up with a dually van too. I never owned one but if my number ever comes in...

I have to disagree with you here Chris. I looked at the Titan and Silverado last December when truck shopping. The Chevrolet rode better, accelerated better and was about 1500 cheaper. The Titan was peppy but the fuel mileage was not up to par. The eco boost is still too new and the Tundra, a great truck, was out of my price range. A fellow co worker has a titan very similar set up to my Silverado and gets 3 mpg less than me. My truck is 5.3 4x4 ext cab 3.42 rear, hd tow package. I average 17.5 mpg. His is ext cab 4wd hd tow pkg and the best he has gotten is 14.2 mpg. Towing about 7k lbs, I was at around 10.9 while he stayed around 8.8.

Well written analysis. I fully agree with everything written as I found the same things to be true when I was truck shopping.

If you read any of my post on my Titan the MPG is the sore point. Thats where it ends. I have averaged 14.3mpg tank to tank with 33" mud tires, 2" lift, and 4.10 gears. It is what it is. Most of my F-150's got right at 15.5mpg average tank to tank. My Dodge Hemi was 12mpg. So its right in the middle.

As for towing its right at 9mpg pulling 9,700# which I did over 5,000 miles last summer though out Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Illinois, Michigan, and into West VA. It was around 11mpg the summer before pulling 7,000#. When I tow about 1/2 the time we are running in groups of 6-10 guys with trucks of all different brands pulling similar sized boats. I can plain stomp all over most everything gas when pulling hills. Accelerating off a interstate on ramp we leave the one guy with a GMC 5.3L 3.42 geared truck a 1/4 mile behind pulling 2,000# less than the rest of us. My friend Scott with a Tundra is the only one that can keep with me on the hills, this includes the Ford guys in 5.4L trucks. After driving my dads 2011 F-150 3.5L Eco Boost it would do just as well or better.

More comes into play when buying a truck other than HP numbers. Thats for sales men and the blind customers. Look at fit and finish, interior, features like a real electronic locking diff, creature comforts, ect.
