No cost option for food plots

Bean leaves are yellowing and some dropping. Farmer says he'll harvest about deer season. Game cam pics have slowed down, guess they've been eating acorns.

Neighbor has game cam near property line facing our beans, hope he doesn't poach, but once the deer move onto his property, they're fair game for him.

Tons of acorns here in Mid-mo and the deer are scattered because of it.

Farmer harvested his share of beans last weekend due to the drought. Will probably plant winter wheat cover crop after deer season. Hopefully my share will keep some deer around during upcoming gun season next month.

update: Gun season ends today. We took 3 does and a medium sized 8 point, all four of which were from the same field. May try for another in muzzleloader season. Beans worked out quite well.

Didn't get the super-dooper, deluxe blind finished in time, so the existing elevated blind wasn't nearly as comfortable.

Was once again reminded that opening weekend provides the biggest opportunity. After that, they go into hiding, for the most part.

Oh, also learned something else, thereby disproving the myth of old dogs/new tricks. It's a heck of a lot easier to field dress a deer on a raised front end loader (with the grapple on) than on the ground. Cleaner and MUCH easier on the old back and legs.
