No Fuel Flowing from Storage Tank

Gee, if you take the fill cap off the tank and blow air back up through the hose, it won't hurt a thing....the air will escape from the fill port.... duh.

 Did you miss the previous posters advocating pressurizing the tank?

If it's a water separating filter, it could be used up. They clog shut and block flow once they are used up.

I have a 100 gallon gravity flow fuel storage tank and the gas just will not flow out of it - actually it will flow if i place the gun/nozzle on the ground so that all of the fuel is able to travel downward - I checked the filter and it is a gravity filter and there are no obstructions anywhere in the line - so I think it is one of two things.

1. There isn't enough fuel in the tank to create the pressure needed to push the fuel out. There is currently about 12 gallons in a 100 gallon tank. (also, the tank is on a stand about 5 ft high - i did this so that there would be pressure)

or....

2. The hose is too big - the opening at the bottom of the tank where the fuel comes out is 3/4 while the hose is 1 inch - also the fittings that go into and come out of the filter are 3/4 - would this make a difference?

any help you guys can give would be great - thanks!

I had the same problem with the same size tank. My tank base was 6' off the ground so I got a diesel filter and then a 1"hose and a nozzle like you see at gas stations. Nothing would come out until I got rid of the nozzle and put a ball valve on and put the filter at the end of the hose just before the fill ball valve. Now it works great.

If it is a crap old used storage tank, possibly the outlet is plugged before the filter. My old tank needed a lot of cleaning to get the scale and rust out of it before I would trust it.

I would start at the source and check for restrictions without the hose and gun and filter and see how it works. Then add the valve and see what come out. Then the filter and check that out and keep on going down the line. Flow will not be like at a gas station, but it still should quick enough to fill a tractor.

Maybe your gravity is broken  ;)

Can't be broken gravity :confused3: It has a lifetime warranty :cool2:

Maybe the plug is hosed up :dance1:

Some of those filters severely restrict the flow. I have Baldwin filter on my tank and it reduces my 15 gpm Filrite DC pump to less than 5 gpm. I could see why your gravity flow tank wouldn't flow if you have a similar restriction.
