Hi everyone, the headlights do not work, but parking lights and turn signals work.i checked fuses, the 2 relays up next to battery and ohms checked them.both headlights look fine and no power to the plugs.i pulled apart all connectors under tractor 3 connections on right side and one one the left a few times and sprayed some lube.took apart front of dash and removed combination light switch,I tested it for continuity it seemed ok ,but I don't have a diagram.Down at the relays only get power from one wire and nothing coming out,but that's both of them too .Has anyone had this problem, could it be the switch for the lights !Any help will be appreciated:confused:

contact your local dealer, and see if they would be willing to send you a copy of just the "wiring diagram" fax or email.
a shop manual / service manual would have the wiring diagram in it. it can be a couple pages wide. with all the wires, etc...

relays = they need to be hooked up to a battery for certain tests. to see if they are good or not.
google "how to test a relay" without quotes. much better instructions in how to test various relays.

test light = cheap trailer light (cheapest you can find at a local store), tear everything off, but the little holder for light, and the couple wire connections), get yourself a couple wires, and run it between things. to see if you get power.

a multi meter set to D/C amps. can be a nice tool to have. though sometimes, having a test light, can be easier than trying to jumble around a multi meter.

your flashers / turn singles, generally run through some "special flasher relay", while regular hi/lo beams, tail lights, break lights, run through a generic cheaper relay or 2 out of the generic fuse box.

Yes the dash lights work, but not the hibeam indicater.Ijust confirmed the combination switch works.I have power at the 7.5 fuse and the 20 amp fuse on the panel. When I tested the "tractor side plug" of the combination switch with a probe test light the hi and low beam circut was real dim compared to the main power wire

With the parking lights working, the switch seems to be working. It sends power to the parking lights and to each of the low or high beam relays depending on which position your at. The relays should each have one hot lead that when the relay closes, it passes the power to the headlights. With high and low not working, maybe the ground has failed for the lights.

So everything except the headlights in both high and low beam works? It's probably loose/dirty wiring or connections somewhere. Get a schematic and go over every wire connection, I'll bet that's the problem. Check your battery too, if it's low, it may have something to do with it.

Kodiak, clarify please. When you tested the tractor-side plug, was it connected to the switch or not? Assuming the switch was unplugged from that connector, you should see 12v on the B1 and B2 pins (with the key switch on) and zero on all other pins. If the switch connector was mated when you did this test and the switch set to low beam, you should see 12V on B1 and B2 as well as T (running lights) and 1 (low beam relay). You can test the switch by bypassing it; with the switch connector unplugged and the key switch on, take a short piece of wire and jumper from B1 to 1 (low beam) or 2 (high beam). This should turn on the lights even if the switch was bad. Listen while you do this; you should be able to hear the respective relay click. If this doesn't work, try bypassing one of the relays by unplugging it and jumpering the pins for the two larger wires. Even before that, check that one of those big wires has 12v whenever the key switch is on (the feed from the 20 amp fuse). Since both high and low beams are effected I expect the problem to be something common, such as the grounds for the relays or the 12v feed (big wire) to the contacts of both relays. But I'm confused by your description of testing the tractor-side connector.

Thanks victor and tj for input,I am thinking connection or ground.haven't been out today ,back to work again.Ritcheyvs,I turned on key and tested the connection where the switch would be plugged in.Main wire good to go with jumper like u described and parking circut was also good ,but the hi and low glowed dim, very dim with jumper light. Thanks I'll keep posted will go check ground out tommorrow if get time.

The problem of your symptoms, according to my service manual, is improper ground or wiring in harness, and possibly bad fuse, relay or switch, or battery. I suspect the first 2, and would check those 1st, then the battery. doesn't seem to be the fuses, cause you'd notice other things, but if the wiring and battery are good, start on the relays. If it's a fuse, you have a bigger problem, because the lights are well within the parameters.
