As far as which is worse, IMO it's easier to do two 10-12 inch clean ups than one 20-24 inch clean up. The heavy dumps really stress the equipment and snow piles up quickly with no melt or evaporation between say the 2 smaller storms.

Agree but I'd also rather clean up two 10-12 inch snowfalls than ten or a dozen 2 inch collections when there is no chance of melting in between.
I hate the small snowfalls that might turn to ice if you don't clean up.
My snowblower (walk behind) will easily handle 10-12 inches and it takes only about 50% more time to do that then to clean up 2-4 inches.

Well, the central midwest is in the eye of the Tiger this time, I fear.

Kinda figure there will have to be some new threads about this one. It is going to effect 28 states, they say. Some folks will dodge the bullet, but some are going to be in for a very, very tough time. Frankly, ice storms the caliber they are talking about can be far worse than snow. Hang on everyone.

Just got off the phone with airline. I was supposed to fly this week. No way I am going anywhere and get stuck and not get back.

Interesting to say the least. Sounds like it's gonna be pretty ugly!

Time to go into survival mode!

We are getting that 48 hour storm starting Tuesday, I didn't hear about those huge totals here but snow, rain, freezing rain and sleet. We've got record depths on the ground now.
I cleaned off a guys carport today, a flimsy aluminum structure, I don't know how it still stood, I was afraid to go up on it.

Watching the news now, they just said storm will impact 28 states.

JB.

Yes, its been a tough winter. We got about 35" so far this year which is about our yearly total. I think we will end up in the 70" snow fall area for the year.

I was just speaking with someone about the snow fall here in southern New England.. we been getting the 1 foot plus storms, one after another.. 20 inches last week and 14 inches on top a few days ago...

There was a famous blizzard that hit CT, RI, and MA in '78' it crippled the area for a few days. Right now the snow is reminicent of what was on the ground then.. not as much, but getting there.. Heard some talk of roofs caving in.. not a normal subject in my area, I'll have to buy a roof rake tomorrow the weather guys and gals are talking about another major snow fall for tuesday and wednesday.

Saturday the wife and I decided to be proactive..We both tried our hand at removing snow from the carport for the second time, and I started up the skid steer to remove some hardened hills left by my snowblower.. and yes I need a roof rake..:D
