John, I am not sure, but I think/hope that's the first thing he did. He has farmed his whole life and teaches auto diesel at our tech center. He knows his way around drive systems. I will mention checking the shear pin if for no other reason than to get him fired up a little. If that does turn out to be the problem, I'll have one on him for a while.

I will tell him to make sure he writes down everything. It hasn't been close to a year, so he should be covered. I also may tell him to stick with it, he may just take no for the answer and fix it with replacement parts.

Thanks again all you guys for the quick response.

was it a KK machine or a machine made by KK with another name on it. there is a difference. I called TSC about brush hog and they said they had a KK I was looking for. Drive ther to find the mower they said they had had TSC on it instead of KK and was made cheaper. When I asked them about it they said it came off a KK truck. So be careful of what you buy.

TAB,

ddl has a good point about the actual name on it. If it was made by KK and branded as "QF", your friend might be out of luck. He needs to find the actual terms of the warranty that was offered with it. On the other hand, as long as you have a valid receipt to show the purchase date, the terms of that warranty have to be met. If QF was the warranter, then part of their bankruptcy/going out of business would have been allowing for maintenance to be done by somebody. There are laws governing warranties, and they are actually much stronger than most people think. The bad news is, whoever took over the warranty work could charge shipping to/from a repair facility. The bottom line is, the terms of the original warranty, plus any modifications authorized by the court, will prevail. His best bet is to get in touch with KK and hope to find somebody willing to back it up. Many companies that OEM items for "store brand" products will, in cases like this, be willing to help out in some way.

If it was sold as a KK product, and nothing was done that violates the warranty terms, they have to honor it. All you have to do is prove the purchase date.

Good luck.

Kevin
