Hows it going hunterridgefarm. Still off the cope?

I have been folowing this thread. I to have been dipping cope for the last 15 years. Quit for about 2 years about a year ago and wife gave in to the temptation of another man and I gave in to the temptation of a good dip. The divorce is over and I am getting ready to quit again.

Dallas,

I am still off the Cope, no nicotine. IT is a little eaiser but still want a dip several times a day. Part of me says I'll start back sometime and part of me says no way. Like walking around with the good guy on one shoulder and the bad guy on the other...all day long!:D

I was a carton a week man for more than 15 years, Lucky Strikes at that. Last one was May 21st, 1982 - about 8:30 a.m. I won't say I haven't wanted one since, but it has veerry gradually subsided over time. I am very glad I quit, though. My breathing capacity is around 88% of normal, so I can't say there are no lasting effects.

After smoking for over 40 years and being up to 2 packs a day or more (each of us), I quit 7/11/2006 and my wife quit 6/25/2007. I can't tell there's been any health benefit at all; in fact, our health is worse, and I've gained a lot of weight. But maybe the decline is simply getting older. I know I don't have full breathing capacity, but have never had it measured. However, my wife was sent for that kind of testing a couple of months ago and hers was 50%. I've no doubt at all that the doctors would attribute that to smoking, but how many people 65 and older who have never smoked have 100% capacity?

But in spite of seeing no health benefit, the house and car are cleaner and I'm not spending all that money on cigarettes.:D

Congrats but
I'm in no hurry to reach the 27 year millstone like you have.
It would make me to old.

The point was that I wanted to get this old, we're close to the same age. My wife quit several times, but always started back. After her second bout with lymphoma, she died with emphyzema and pulmonary failure five years ago. And my youngest uncle, who smoked my brand, died with emphyzema a couple of years ago. I have no wish to join them any time soon.

Snuff,I believe,is harder to quit than smoking.
And not just the fact that they say you get more nicotine either.

Rubbing snuff,is more natural kinda thing.

Smoking is just not natural.

Snuff, doesn't make you cough, gag,or give you shortness of breath, like smoking will in just a few years.

Plus,if you are a polite dipper,it doesn't bother other people like smoking, doesn't stink up your house/car or yourself like smoking does,so less pressure from others to quit.

I rub snuff inside about anywheres I want,[just gotta be descrete with that spit cup],smokers gotta go outside etc.I've rubbed snuff on airplanes,no problems.

To me,smoking and dipping are intirely two different habits[I smoked for about 12 -13 years also.] No comparison really.

Now that I've quit I'm not satisifed with smoking and I not satisified with not smoking.

I started dipping cope when I was about 12. Some 18 year-old punk down the road offered me a dip and I was dumb enough (peer pressure) to try it. I've been hooked ever since. When the prices started climbing a few years ago I started dipping grizzly wintergreen. I dip about 3 cans a week. That may not sound like much but If i'm awake and not in Church i've got a dip in my mouth. During past attempts at quitting i'd start smoking cigs.... to knock off the withdrawls. I always ended up dipping before long. I once made it a year. A month after quitting i developed digestive problems which got worse as time passed. About a year after i quit the stomach/digestive problems was so bad i went to a see a well known town doctor. He told me i'd be better off dipping because my body was so use to it . I purchased a can, got sick, and i'm dipping again for a total of 28 years. I attempted to quit about 2 years ago and had the worse withdrawls ever. I remember laying on the sofa holding my head and moaning because of the "pop...., pop...., pop......" electrical shocks that were firing off in my brain. I actually had the sensation of getting jolted with electrical shocks in my brain about every 3 seconds. I was so angry and on edge that my wife and children begged me to get a dip (now that's sad).

After reading this forum i'm starting to get the courage up again and will quit cold turkey soon. I've had several friends develope mouth cancer, 1 died of throat cancer 2 years after retiring from the railyard.

I envy your courage to quit. Stay strong!
