At least if things go according to the last time I bought a generator :confused2:

My PTO generator finally came in, so I got the plywood mounted to the carryall that I made a few weeks back, and the generator mounted to the plywood. I had to shorten the PTO shaft some, which was no big deal.
So now I need to find a nice dry spot in the pole barn to store this thing for three years  And I need to hunt up a 4 prong 50a plug. I already have a couple cords made up to fit the 30a outlet.
BTW, has anyone ever had a mouse family move into one of these things? Should I put some mesh over the fan vents?

Freds....Nice setup....Take my word for it ..you will never have another power outage now...I bought my PTO generator about 3 yrs. ago and we have not had a power outage since...Oh I have run it just to be sure it works and runs the house ..and it does...but no power outage .

So the deal is ..Buy a generator and then you are assured you will never have a power outage...:thumbsup:

My neighbor's brother up the road is thinking about buying my old welder/generator. Maybe I should wait three years to sell it to him to assure us of six years without an outage :confused2:

Thanks Brin. I'll test her out when the weather breaks, unless it's actually needed before then.

I have been thinking about one for my 2305. We had a tornado Come through two summers ago and we were out of power for 2 days. Then every storm after that we lost power due to falling limbs. We had everything running on gas generators but they are too noisy and finicky to start.

I've seen it written that mice can get in a 1/4" hole. I don't know if that's true but they can get into places I wouldn't think they'd fit.

Be sure to excersize your generator regularly to keep the field magnetism up. (unless you have a permanent magnet generator?) If not, read up on how to flash the generator.

By the way, what size did you get and what brand is it?

reichebrown, to tell you the truth, having the tractor running at PTO speed is pretty noisy, too. At least a gas generator can idle down if the load drops, but the fiddling with another engine is the reason I went to a PTO generator, even though I'm still keeping my one gas generator. Another reason is I have a 150 gal diesel fuel tank. During that power grid outage 5-6 years ago there was one gas station in the area that was unaffected. Having a PTO generator seemed to make a lot of sense.

Good tips TRR. I'll check into that magnet thing. I don't recall reading anything in the instructions, but it was mostly schematics covering two other models. And I'll cover the holes with screen while it sits. Mice did enough damage to my walk behind snowblower this past summer, eating through the fuel line and something in the electric starter. I don't want anything happening to the generator when I need it. Here's the link.

yep.. my 12.5kw pto genny has effectively warded off power outtages for 6ys now.. :)

DO vermin proof it.. it's a good idea..

I too was concerned about mice or other vermin. I tried what I read on this site and that was to place some bounce regular fabric softener sheets around the generator. I bought a new small diesel genset last year, placed a few bounce sheets around it under the cover and there no signs of mice :thumbsup:. I tried it in a few other areas that I was having problems with mice and the bounce sheets seem to keep them away. Who knew.

Thanks for that info, Randall!
Add that to the other uses for drier sheets (aren't you suppsed to stick one in your pocket to keep skeeters away, too?).
I keep my snowblower outside under a tarp and am starting to see bird seed when I pull off the tarp. Drier sheets just went on my "need to get" list.
Good tip.

LOL
Same here, 6KW wired with isolation switching pannel all proper like also.
Best insurance policy there is.
I added a Kilo-watt as I wanted to be shure it would not damage electronics.

Even got me a back up at a yard sale for $50., just could not refuse it as it was brand new in box c/w warrantee papers etc.

Fellow said it was too noisy!--one of the import 1300 watt 2 stroke units.
NO--not stolen as it even had the bill of sale in the box.

Interesting about drier sheets, must retain that, thanks.
