I have a bright white clam shell drive way, I live about a city block's distance from the road to a county landfill and animal shelter, as well as the FedEx terminal at the rear of the airport. People coming from the north just can't seem to read the big sign at the road, drive by and just can't avoid my shiny white driveway. I've turned around in driveways myself, but I avoid it if possible, I'll drive a mile up the road to keep from using someone's driveway, it is private property.
That wouldn't be so bad except they usually are going way too fast, and slam on brakes as they turn in with wheels locked to the left, then proceed to stop and turn the wheels all the way the other way while sitting still. Most are front drive of course, so the punch the throttle and dig a few more holes before leaving. I've had several drive up my driveway to the turnout in front of the house and turn around, had one park there at night, turn on inside lights and start reading directions or something. Once I had to wait for a car to back out, so I could get in! Makes you feel like Rodney Dangerfield!

That's the way country living is. People drive up my horse-shoe shaped drive all the time and turn around, especially the ones pulling a trailer. I wouldn't mind them doing it, if they would stop for coffee but they are in a big hurry trying to "get away". One guy did stop for directions but he thought my driveway was the county road.

I'm not putting a gate up to keep them out, I'm to busy too.

Seems manors have skipped an generation or two.
My neighbor has a problem with people tearing up the finish on his drive. The worst was a cement truck came down our road by mistake and had nowhere to turn around so used my neighbors asphalt drive. A hot summer day and the concrete company got a call to come out and repair his drive.

I end up with black tire marks on my drive frequently.

If they were considerate and used a bit of common sense, I wouldn't mind so bad. I just go out about once a month dress it good. It's four years old and pretty solid, but if it rains and people do that, then it makes small low spots.

I live on a fairly busy road, with a 200 foot long driveway. Over the past few years, I've had a number of people pull in to turn around, find they can't back out because of traffic, so they drive up on my lawn to turn around so they can just drive out of my driveway. One guy even left me some nice ruts in the grass as he just did a 'donut' turn and headed out. Morons.

Where I live, I have to fix the driveway holes about once a week from all the people trying to turn around in my lower drive on a steep hill. Lots of tire spinning and gravel throwing. I am just resigned to it. The tractor can fix it in no time.. Keeps my bucket smoothing skills sharp. I usually wait until there several holes and fix them all at once.

Must be the big NRA sign out front that keeps 'em outta my driveway........

Some of it is likely ignorance since they are not used to driving off pavement....

BUT.... :D

We had a guy drive all the way up our road and then our long driveway to the house. We have TWO areas to turn around in on the driveway and a real obvious one on the road.

Dip scat passed our turning circle on the front of the house, went half way to the back of the house were there is plenty of space to turn around, but decided to go off the driveway into the grass to turn around.:shocked::mad: Dumb a..... He danged near got stuck and he left big ruts from spinning his tires to get out. If he had gotten stuck, I would have had fun with him.....

Course he drove past the open gate with two posted signs... Sometimes, even a sign is not enough....

You just can't fix stupid.

Later,
Dan

I think what many have said must be true. There Seems To Be No Respect For Others,,,,,,We have a 1/2 mile long lane with four homes, ours being the last one. I can't tell you how many times people have driven all the way to our property before they figure out they should not be here. So what do they do. Turn around in the grass or in front of the shed and then burn out. Once my wife came home and there were a bunch of high school kids partying in the yard. She stopped and told them that they were on privet land and one said, Oh yeah? We have been coming here for years. Funny thing is we had just installed 1/4 mile of driveway that they had driven on to get where they were. The other problem has been up till two years ago there were high school kids living at one of the homes so there was always party central at the entrance to the lane and they leave their beer cans every time. When they would come home they would litter the whole way up the lane till they got to their driveway off the lane. PIGS!!! I wonder if they threw their TP on the floor at home. When we were kids we did plenty but we did not Defecate in our own yards! :fiery:

I have a U shaped drive in front of my house. I don't mind people using it as a turnaround, but some of them don't even slow down. One of them ran over my dog and killed it, and didn't even stop. I was not happy.
