Do Not
I am brand new member to TractorByNet and am looking for some Help. I'm out in Colorado and used my tractor four days ago to clean out my Horse paddocks and it ran like a true champ. It is a JD 4400 series (37hp). When I came back from a short vacation went out to start it up and when I turn the key (absolutely) nothing happened. No crank, no effort to start. Checked lights - all worked, dash lights came on etc - battery is charge up. I've ordered a thermistor for it and waiting for it to come in. If it is not the thermistor - any other thoughts on what it could be????

Thanks everyone.

Check the seat switch and if the gear/PTO levers are not slightly out.
And Welcome to TBN!

G'day Mate and welcome (your first post) to TBN from Downunder.

Sometimes the Low/Neutral/High range selector 'looks' and feels like it's in the Neutral position (which you need to be in in order to start) so you could try re-positioning the lever.

Also, when you turn the key to 'ON' but not yet to 'START' can you hear the fuel solenoid "clicking"?

Enjoy the site.

Checking/cleaning ground cable to frame connection may help

Well walked out today to feed horses and decided to double check a few things on the tractor. PTO etc all good. Fuses all good. pushed in the reverse and forward pedals (HYDROSTAT). Put key in and turned to on position - heard fuel solenoid click and turned to start and it started right up and purred like a kitten????

I'm going to move this thread over to our John Deere section.

You might also pull battery and have napa do a load check on it. I have had batteries recharge while sitting overnight. But my guess is either a safety switch not setting properly or a loose ground. Since you fiddeled with all controls, im leaning towards safety interlock.

Or a reverse/forward pedal was sticking and not moving back into a neutral position for starting.. happened to me when a stick lodged tight causing that problem.
Lubricate the pedal joints where possible, in hopes it stays fixed.
