Probably to much brake as you stated and yes indeed a battery tender is in order.

Unless you do a lot of work near or on public roads, I would find that circuit suppling power to a brake switch and disconnect it. Just me! But if I am not in an environment that others need to see brake lights, they would go!
You have not said, but if you are doing work on a low idle, your charging system is not working at its most efficient. Most all systems on a tractor are rated at working (540) RPM’s. Do you need to run at that level? In my opinion NO! at least not for most non PTO work. But if your low idle is 800 engine RPM’s, I would suggest you bump that up another 400+ RPM’s. It is my opinion you will find almost all of your systems including your charging system to function at a more responsive rate.

Interesting point on the brake lights and I will give that a ponder as to RPM my tractor is auto throttle so if I am moving the RPM's are ramped up, if I am using the backhoe I have to set the throttle manually.
