no tach

the tach on my 3054 quit, anyone know what might be up. I don't know too much about how a deisel gets its tach signal.

Hmmm...how the tach works. I don't know but my wife did get me the factory service manual for Christmas. It is for the 3504, but the 3054 will be the same. I can take a look, but probably won't be able to post intil tomorrow. You should have the parts manual and looking at it may provide clues to the tachs operation.

Probably the cable stripped out the inside of the tachometer.
Tachometer will have to be replaced but it is easy, takes a small and medium phillips screwdrivers and about 15 minutes of your time.
Its not uncommon.

The repair manual lists the following:

Engine Tachometer Does Not Function When Engine is Running:

Tachometer cable is defective or improperly connected- repair or replace.

Hour meter assyembly defective- replace

Gear in instrument panel defective- replace

I know, not a lot of help, but thats what is listed in the factory sevice manual.
