no-till drill and fescue

Guys,

Found a used overseed drill designed for no till overseeding for pasture renovation. Great planes and land pride (same compamy) make these.

Question is: I have read several seed companies claim that fescue does not germenate well, compared to other types of grass, when its drilled in rather than broad cast seeded.
Anyone have any exeperince with this issue?

i have been no till seeding for a few years now and have heard this but never seen any miss fires with drilling it ,main prob is most people try to drill too fast and too deep ,i also had a look at the drill ya talking about and they are good drills BUT i'd see if i could get row spaceing closer 7.5 is ok for grain and crops but can let alot of weed grow between rows i'd look for 6 inch rows ,check this drill out

i have one like it only bigger running costs are next to zero and ya find good strikes of seed by useing a "T" boot (it makes a cut like a upside T )

I own a landpride OS 1548 overseeder. I do alot of fesque and it does a great job. I do have the front roller and a slit seeder attachment for mine. the same depth 1/4" is very important and the slit seeder put s the seeds in the rows 2" apart. the rear roller closes the soil for good contact. I mainly use mine for yards and lawns. if your existing grass is there but needs thicked up a OS will work fine. if your bare you won't be able to get enough seed in the ground, even if drilled 3 diffent dierections. If you aplly too much seed the slot in the ground will be full of seed and will kill it's self out. I hoped I helped
