Depends upon what you're using now. If you's still got that OE crap in there - and you replace it with a suitable 80W90 - things will quiet down in general. In the case of a specific noise, all bets are off. If you're in a year round warm climate, or put the tractor into winter storage, 85W140 will generally quiet it down even more.

That's what I used and it made quite a difference all around. The specific noise...don't know if even that will help?

I switched from 80w90 to 85w140 down here on the Gulf Coast, and I noticed, that mine shifted smoother, from the getgo. Not much winter cold weather down here.
