Noise Levels how high? 90-110?

How high of noise level is most tractors and attachments? wondering as too how much NRR value you need..
specific # or ideas is what i'm interested in..

OSHA requires hearing protection for anything over 85 dB (8 hours TWV). Running a chainsaw for 45 minutes w/o hearing protection is equal to 40 hours of 90 dB industrial noise.

If you are in doubt, stick in some 20 NRR, it could save you a lot of grief later, wish I'd given myself this advise years ago /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I was stunned to find that running my mmm on my Kubota BX2200 with Curtis cab in place generated 104 db on my SPL meter! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Outside the cab was in the mid to high 90's. It didn't seem that loud but rest assured I will always wear my head phone stlye protection from now on!

Noise level can sneak up on you. Thought my newly-acquired JD 318 garden tractor with 50" deck "sounded" a little loud the first few times I ran it - but not that awful loud.

Just checked this weekend with my cheap Radio Shack meter - 94db at the operators ear at full throttle and the deck engaged. Needless to say I'll be wearing hearing protection from now on. Would not have guessed it was quite that loud - just a little annoying.

Howdy... Wow.. something I can comment on.

OSHA has a good chart on noise levels.. but for instance, 95db at 4 hrs is the one I use for the bands we run. I can't quote the rest from memory...

(And I wear plugs at work! )

Got out the Radio Shack sound meter on my BX2200 with 60 MMM, 84 dba when cutting at 3067 RPM. The Curtis cab must really add some DBA, big differance between 84 and 104!

that's what i was wondering i was thinking some of the times my tractor could be up near 100db and with 20 muff's i was afraid it was too loud.. so i got some 29db ones.. big diffrence from my o' 20's.. thanks all!

We are using the same meter so I will double check my reading. I can tell you for sure that its more than 84db, though! I think the cab creates some kind of echo effect which makes the noise level increase. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I will borrow an industrial sound meter from work the next time I am in the office and let you know what I get. The $50 20 year old meter I used may not be the best unit to trust your hearing to /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

If we're going to compare notes we should also be careful we're measuring roughly the same way - "A" or "C" scale, and the position & orientation of the meter.

Glad I checked mine though - while by habit I use muffs for chainsaw or weedwacking work - I might have gone all summer without thinking that much of the mower - and that would have been a mistake. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
