I would like to ask those of you who have experience with the hydro transmissions. I have a B7510 and it makes a strange noise as if some bearing had some problem in there. It happens when there is no load on the engine such as when the tractor got up to speed after pushing down on the pedal or if I coast down a small hill with a the pedal down a bit. I tried it from 1500 to PTO rpm and it happens at any of them. I'm not talking about the whiney noise the hydro makes or may be it is a different kind of noise that supposed to be there. It kind of sounds like a worn out power tool that has a worn axle bearing/bushing. I wonder if that is normal or I should be concerned about that. It has been happening for a while even when the engine and tranny get warm. The tractor always runs for at least 5-10 minutes before I even move it and I like it to be running for about 15-20 minutes total before doing any work with it. I do not notice any difference in power or performance. As a matter of fact it does not happen when I work the machine because there is always load on the transmission. Could you give me some pointers here?:(
Thanks

Hi Easygo; Sorry your having trouble, and I don't know if I can help or not (not a tractor expert), but figured I'd try since your problem kinda sounds similar to one I had with my B5200. My tractor was making a horrible grinding type sound every time I changed direction or was driving over uneven ground and sounded like it was coming from the trans. It turned out to be the hubs on the rear wheels had loosened and were twisting slightly back and forth on the axle, tightened and all was well again. I don't know what sort of hub is on your rear tires, but just thought you might want to jack up the back and see if the rear tires can be wiggled side to side indicating something loose. It could be something else entirely, but its a simple enough quick check.
Good Luck

JOHNINMA,
The noise actually comes from the center to foreward bottom portion of the machine and is intermittent. It's not happening when i take off or stop, just when i travel at a fairly even speed with no load on the trabsmission. Thank you for the suggestion though. I will check that too.

Can you be more descriptive on the "strange" noise? Is it a whine, grind, rattle, vibration? Not sure we can help unless we have a good understanding of what you are hearing. How many hours are on your tractor? When was the last service? when did you first notice the noise and what type of work were you doing just prior? Just a little more info. Thanks

The tractor has about 104hrs now and the last service was at about 75hrs. The noise is a high pitch rattle just like the one you would hear if you are using an old worn out power tool. (May be I'm the only one who uses power tools until they get to that sad state. I believe that is when the electrical motor bearings get worn out.) I only hear it in Hi gear never in Low gear. As I mentioned before it only happens when there is no load on the transmission such as when the tractor coasts and the hydro pedal is down some or a lot but I have to hold the pedal stationary. It does not happen every time I use the tractor but it comes up now & then. I whish I could say it is brought on by sutch n' sutch actions but the above description is really about the best I can come up with. I notice no performance issues neither while mowing nor when using the loader or dragging a blade.
Thanks

Easygo,
I have a B2710 and it does the same thing when traveling down the road in hi range. I've read here that it is normal even though it is quite loud and embarrasing. I guess its the nature of the beast! Other than that the machine is great.

I have a B7800. Like Savoy John, I notice the same thing when travelling on the road in high range and I hit a dip or a bump. To me, it's like the wheels coast ahead of the transmission and I hear that noise briefly until the transmission catches up to the wheels again. I think it's normal.

Thank you for your replies herringchoker and Savoy_John. I'm happy to hear that the noise is not a problem other than the fact that it leaves a dent in one's pride. In all the reading and research I did before buying this noise never surfaced. I do love the tractor though, it turned out to be more capeable than I expcted.

Same thing on my L3400HST going down the road in high range.

I noticed the same thing today on my B7500. I hope that it is nothing to worry about.
