I ran a lot of hours on larger farm tractors (no cabs) when I was younger. Now at 40 years young, I have some mid range hearing loss as a result on hearing tests. Mid range hearing loss is typical of sustained loud engine noise. I don't seem to notice any reduced hearing but then again what I am missing! (My wife does say I don't seem to hear anything she says.) I remember many days of getting off tractors after 8-10 hours of feild work and your hearing was significantly diminished for several minutes. Of course back in my youth, I had to have the tractor radio much louder than the tractor so I could hear the music! IMHO, kubota has a quiter compact tractor than comparable sized JD.

I have run chainsaws for several years as a youngster. I have worked in sawmills and foundrys. I am now almost 65 and using two hearing aids. I mow for 3 to 5 hours at a time. My nephew insisted that I wear ear protection. I found that wearing the ear protection I was not near as tired at the end of the mowing. I am a believer in them now. JIM

No, You said the tractor was "real noisy"
And you received a defintion of the decibel, the relative sound intensities for different activities, the specification levels for different tractors, the safety levels and protection equipment used by others. Where was the digression? Seems you got a pretty good return on your investment.

So far all of the responses have been referring to "general" loudness. I have read specific about rattles, pings, knocks and other NOISES.

When I said NOISES I meant NOISES. I never mentioned that my ears hurt.

I'm specifically interested in what types of NOISES other kubota owners have experienced.

I'm trying to get a feel for how average the NOISES I am hearing are.

I don't need to know about specs or safety equipment, I want reality.

Well every once in a while there is a groaning sound- forgot to take the brake off.
Then there is a high pitched whistle at times. Think its oil bypassing the bucket contoller Sounds like money.
Also a chater when the psv on the hydraulics lets loose from trying to overload it.
The engine noise gets a little deeper when the load is increased.
A high pitched whistle when it starts to overheat like when the dynamo siezes up and the fan belt breaks. Its real fun getting that one bolt in under and back out.
Gears grinding when putting it into high or low from neutal.
A loud hum when the mmm gets up to speed
And lots more that I'm used to but can't remember

When in high range and the motor starts to lug down,there are strange noises from the transmission also the motor..and the cure would be pick a lower range or more throttle.

Just wondering if the muffler at the side or if you have a stack muffler?
When I had my side muffler change to a stack do to the FEL it became a tad louder.

not trying to be funny here or argumentive, but u say it is 'NOSIER THAN WHAT U ARE USED TO" but what are u used too?i do not find my 2400 to be noisy(at least to me) find it quietier than my sears garden tractor. even at pto speed 2500 rpm and rear mower going , do not find it noisy or loud.
