noob snowblower question

Hey guys,

i got this blower for my tractor, and im trying to figure out what "bolts" I need to keep in stock

I know I need this bolt as ive broken some already, any others?

Anything labeled "shearbolt" I see #19 on page 12 of that manual.

I have owned this type and size blower, a good machine. Keep spare shearbolts and nuts on board. I went full years without breaking one, then broke one every 3 hours for a while. So whatever the book says, have them in the correct grade. Keep the wrenches in your tool box too.

Item 71 on page 21 of the manual....shearbolt for the pto shaft. If you are already breaking them, I would drill it out to a 1/4" which is only .014" larger and use a grade 5 bolt about 1 5/8" long.

10.9 is the grade of metric bolt 6x1.0 x 40 long.

i guess I'm lucky, only broke 1 shear bolt in 14 years and thats because I tried to snowblow 2 inch layer of ice.

If the blower is brand new, let it run on the tractor for a 1/2 hour, then grease it up again. New assemblies take a little time to wear in, shearing bolts would be reduced. Don't put a higher rated bolt in, it just moves the failure to another shear bolt that will be harder to access. Engage the PTO with the blower lowered, doing it while raised puts additional stress on the PTO shaft shear bolt.
