My dad found out that same thing the hard way. Luckily he wasn't injected with venom and survived to tell the story. He now laughs at people who say that a snake can't bite under water.

I guess we all heard that old tale about snakes not biting under water when we were kids. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif But since they eat fish, how would they catch one if they couldn't bite under water. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

David I caught a fish and thought it was tangled in tree roots. I got the boat hook out and there was a snake clamped on my fish. I cut the line and went on my way lol

Ive seen em on T.V doing it here but not bringing up big boys like that ! Maybe they use a telephone or pacemaker rig to get em to the surface than jump in for the pictures. HA! Better yet, What the H*LL do you do with them once you got one?! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif It would cost a small fortune to have one mounted! Reminds me of when my wife got a 9'10" Sailfish on our honeymoon. The guide asked if we would like it mounted?....Heck at the time we didn't have a room that was that big to put it on! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif My how things have changed, now we have the room but my wife would not allow me to hang it on the wall!!

Here is a pretty funny (and probably accurate) description on ESPN "Noodlin' Catfish" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have an older friend who's just a little more afraid of snakes than he is fond of fishing. When he was a young man they noodled for fish all the time in a the local creeks.

That is until he came up one day with a cotton mouth instead of a cat fish. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

He's a rod and line man now.

Personally I don't think I would ever consider feeling along the bank for a cavity and then sticking my hand in there to find a fish. Just not one of the things I think I'd do.

Great.

I am staying out of water, and I am NOT going to Oklahoma
ever again.

Just great. What do those things eat? I don't think anything esle in the water gets that big.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

WroughtnHarv Dad did the same ting well When he was a boy his dad bought a big AC tractor and disc and they used to plow for folks that didnt have tractors. Dad would plow during the day and camp at night and Grandpa would take over at night. Dad pulled a fish out of the water on a cane pole and it was hung he felt down the line and it was a snake but when he let go the snake released his grip on the log and the tension on the line popped the snake and fish both up on the land. Dad quit night fishing there lol.
Im a lawbreaker myself lol in and old slew we use an old armature out of the Burnsville train staion. It was used to operate 4 phones. you run all the wires in the watter and get cranking. It stuns the fish. We just use it on private ponds though. No noodling for me either.
